I know this has nothing to do with Disney really, but........

My partner and I are going to adopt a child next year!! :cool1:

We have been together for almost 15 years and married for almost years. All of the sudden he got this urge to be a father. I couldn't believe he finally asked me if we can adopt a child, I was like "I thought you will never ask!!!"

I am so excited. But to be sure he wasn't just saying it, I made him do all the research (well I have already done it long time ago, but I made him do it anyway). We attended a seminar, and then we met with a adoption worker. We filled out the application form, wrote the bios, and turned them in yesterday. We even enrolled to the PRIDE trainning (what a odd name for adoption traninning class). The adoption worker said since we are looking for an older kid (school age), and married, and have good jobs and all that, she will fast track our application!

We are super excited, we even went out and got a cool new bunk bed with workstation on the bottom and steps that are also drawers on the side...

Anyway, here is the Disney related part:
I have already booked a DCL cruise for our 16th anniverary (or 6th wedding ann.) for Feb 2012. Should I add another person to our reservation now and lock on to the current rate? or should I wait until we actually get the child before we change our reservation? Will the price go up alot if I wait too long? But I don't even have a kid yet, so I can't give them a name. Am I just crazy thining about my Disney trip where there are more important things to think about? Am i going to be a good father? :confused3

First, congratulations!! :yay::woohoo:

It's an arduous process, but SOOO worth it!!
My partner and I are foster parents with the hope of adopting our 3-yr-old angel!! We've had her since she was 20 months old. It seems to be going in that direction, but unfortunately you just never know.

It sounds as if you're going for a child who is already free for adoption, and I don't know how it works there, but I'm sure the process is a lot more cut and dry than fostering. I know it is here anyway.

And you know what? I would go ahead and book that extra spot!! :yay: Give "your" child a name for now, and you can change it later. I firmly believe in the power of positive thinking (believe it, receive it!). Then you can always take it out if things haven't worked out for you by then. But I'm sure things will go quickly for you though since you're looking for an older child.
My partner and I have already said that if things go well and we get to adopt her, we will be booked on DCL as SOON as we know for sure!!!

Again, CONGRATULATIONS, and GOOD LUCK!!! :goodvibes Keep us posted!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations! Adoption is the greatest gift we have ever received. We have adopted twice. The reality is that it takes a long time and the timeline you imagine seems to always expand. No one has ever adopted by accident!

Our first adoption was supposed to take 6 months, but there were complications and it took about a year. The second was supposed to take 6 months but it took 19 months.

The wait was worth it and we got the perfect kids for our family! One of the best parts of adoption is that kids have the freedom to grow into the people they should. There aren't any preconceived notions that they should be musical like your partner, or smart like you. They just get to be who they are.

Oh, and heck, let's face it, WDW is much more fun when you share it with your child!

Best wishes to you! Every child deserves to be loved and treasured. It sounds like your son/daughter is already on the way to joining a great forever family!

My partner and I are also Foster parents looking to adopt a child (or two). It's a very long process and we have booked for a "child" for our vacation to WDW. We sadly had to cancel "their" reservations and Disney was more than happy to assist us in that matter. Of course, we only had to cancel anything that had to deal with a cancellation policy, just make sure you are following that in a timely manner.
One day we will have a child(ren) and will get to re-experience Walt Disney World through their eyes.
Good luck and congratulations for making a difference in a child's life.

Thanks for the responds. We are working with the local Children Services and they will trying to match us with one of their "crown ward children". Since we would like to adopt a 5-7 yo, they put us on the priority list. Yeah I know nothing is confirmed at this point, the worker said 6 months so we will see how it turns out. The I can't wait to bring my own kid to do Disney. I LOVE Disney, now I will have more excuse to go more often! SO exciting!

Congratulations and good luck! I work for a non-profit adoption and foster care agency...and teach PRIDE classes. (Parents Resource for Information, Development, and Education) Sending positive thoughts your way!

Thanks jkCT!
I think the name is funny, sounds like a class to learn how to be a Gay person or "gay 101" or something :rotfl2:

I know, I always have the urge to wear my rainbow t-shirts to class!

I am so happy for you!! ...and a bit jealous. I would love to adopt. My clock is ticking! You are going to be a great father, I'm sure. Keep us posted!

Blessing on you. :thumbsup2
And best of luck.

:thumbsup2I say book the trip with "plus 1" and have faith that it will all work out.

Good luck ... and if you ever need a babysitter just hop over the border (I'm really good at spoiling kids).

I'd err on the safe side and book plus 1. You never know. When getting ready for kids and once you have them "Always be prepared for the unexpected":thumbsup2

Good Luck and best wishes to you and your DP.

OK I will email my travel agent and see what she think. The only other thing I am concerning about is travel document, can I get (Canadian) passport for my future son right away? or what's the deal? I really have no clue.
