Prohibited items question/dilemma

Often, we combine cruises with WDW trips before and/or after. For the WDW part of the trip, I might have prohibited items (e.g., power strip or small kitchen appliance). In the past, we have always had a car or a place to store the prohibited items during the cruise. But, what do you do if you know your items are prohibited and you have no place to store them while on the ship?

Do you declare them with your carry on items and then pick them up at the end of the cruise? Do you keep them in your checked luggage and let them know somehow that you have the items? Do you pack them up and ship (no pun intended) them home? Any other thoughts?

You've pretty much covered it.

Pack it up and mail it back home is good.

If placed in checked bags, the bag may be flagged for further screening and the prohibited item confiscated, held, to be returned at the end of the cruise.

If you have it in your carry on bag, and it's discovered during the screening process (x-ray machine much like an airport one), it will be confiscated, held, to be returned at the end of the cruise.

Be aware, held items are returned once off the ship in the terminal. If you remember them. Any items not claimed are disposed of.

If going back to Wdw resort after the cruise. You can leave a bag at the resort that you stayed at or will be going to after said cruise. We have done this option many times.

meh. I'm in the put it in the luggage and see if they catch it. Just let them confiscate it and return it to you the last night. No need to spend money to ship it home when you likely are going to pay for luggage. Just one tip, make sure you have enough space to repack it!

We had a power strip once that we had used at the hotel but of course they aren't allowed on the cruise. Didn't pack it to see if they would "catch" it, of course. We just brought it with us to checkin and told them what was up, and they were happy to hold it until we returned. It's not a game to see what they can catch, the prohibited items are generally for safety, nothing to be played with. It was there waiting for us in the baggage pickup area.

I think this is probably how we would handle it. I have no intention of using prohibited items on the ship, but would need them for the WDW portion of the trip.

Since when are power strips confiscated????

Have been on 10 cruises NEVER had an issue

I took one on many cruises. But, after they added the restriction, we just don't take them anymore. So it's not an issue with us. I appreciate their genuine concern for a fire risk, I wonder if they ever had a real problem! We get along fine without one, but i understand you can get one from GS if you really need one.

I have taken power strips many times without a problem and had them plugged in the room. The room steward never said anything and I had never bothered to read a list of prohibited items. The one time I didn't take one I borrowed a strip from guest services, exactly like the one I usually brought. Now I have one of those strips that allows you to plug in Up to five Apple devices at once. It works great. The table with confiscated items when you leave the ship always cracks me up...the huge irons that people try to bring are hilarious. Our last cruise, there was a full size iron that must have weighted five pounds by itself.

Is that confiscated item table guarded? Or can anyone just walk up and take your things?

We were concerned about my husband's heating pad with an automatic shut off, needed for chronic back pain. We had it in our carry on and nothing was said. I realized I had a travel scissors/corkscrew/screwdriver knife in our suitcase after we got to the room. I always leave it my suitcase I check when traveling in the little zipper bag, never get it out when we unpack, so it was in there. Nothing was said although I of course left it in the bag.

There was a person standing there. But I don't know if you are supposed to have a receipt to show. Otherwise I suppose you could just say its yours.
