I just noticed that baby monitors and white noise machines are subject to inspection and may or may not be allowed. We use both of these for our toddler. We have a Nanit camera that we watch via our phones, and it's an expensive system that I would have no place to store if it wasn't allowed on the boat.

Has anyone had any experience with these being allowed or disallowed? Do they even work on the boat? I know it relies on Bluetooth and WiFi.

If they consume too much wattage, they won't let them on board. We brought a white noise machine once and it was fine. We usually see the 'confiscated' table while we're checking in at the port and it usually looks like curling irons, travel irons, and high power hair dryers... along with power strips. They'll store them and you can pick them up when the cruise is over.

Download a white noise machine app to your phone. You can probably find a baby monitor app, too, that you could use between yours and your partner's phones if needed.

Awesome, so I don't have to worry about having to toss these in the trash like going through TSA? I'd be okay with it as long as I knew I could get it back. I just don't have anywhere to store it myself.

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. We've seen the confiscated table when we've boarded and we've seen the pick up table when we've gotten off. They'll just hold on to it for you if they don't want you plugging it in in your cabin.

we bring a sound machine for our daughter but it has the option to run on batteries so we dont have to plug it in to the power outlet on the boat.

I'm not sure that a baby monitor would work if you plan to leave the room entirely... although I assume no one is leaving a baby in their stateroom unattended?
Our son is older, but we were thinking it would be nice to have if we wanted to visit with family in the room next door. We wouldn't go further than that.

Boy I hope our Hatch makes the cut! I may pick up a battery operated one just in case.

I looked up the Nanit. Looks cool, I probably would have gotten one if it had existed when our kids were that age. It says it uses Bluetooth for initial setup and then Wifi after.

So… I doubt it will work. You’d have to reset it up for the ship’s Wifi. Which… usually requires you to visit a login page to sign in from the device. Which you can’t do from a camera. There may be some crazy workarounds I can think of, but if I had to bet, I don’t think you’ll be able to get it to work.

Btw, you *might* be able to setup your phone as a personal Wifi hotspot and then connect your camera to your phone that way. I’m reading a bit more, it says the Nanit can stream video to the app as long as they are on the same Wifi network even without Internet access. You could try testing that at home if you feel confident about changing the Wifi network on the device to test and then switching it back.

/not tech support, just some thoughts.

I bought a wireless travel sound machine on amazon- called "Pure Enrichment Wave" mini wireless sound machine. I've taken it on 2 DCL cruises now and haven't had any problems. I works great and helps to block out the sound of my snoring for my daughter.

We also travel with a white noise machine - do we have to point it out to the staff to inspect it, or do they find it on their own or…?
I‘m also wondering if my Dyson hairdryer will be allowed. We’ve used both on Royal Caribbean cruises recently with no issues…

We brought two Hatches (two staterooms) onboard the Wonder last week with no problem. Recommend bringing them in your carryon to the ship, so if they need to check them it doesn't delay your checked luggage getting to your stateroom. We plugged into regular outlet, did not use USB.

So I'm not sure if you've traveled with the Nanit before. We've had problems using ours with "open" wifi that doesn't have a password. We have stayed at the Swan/Dolphin and the Fort Wilderness cabins and had to use my husband's laptop as a hotspot in order to connect the camera. I'm not sure if the Nanit would work on DCL because you have to connect the camera to the ship's wifi, which would be costly, and might not work if it's not password protected. (Not to mention the internet not being good enough.) We are intending to buy an inexpensive closed circuit video monitor for our upcoming cruise for the same reason - we have connecting staterooms/verandahs to use when he's sleeping and want to see that he actually falls asleep and doesn't turn on a movie. :D

I have a Conair white noise machine. Runs on outlet and batteries. I brought it on in November without any issues. :)

We also have a Hatch machine….did you check them or carry on? We are trying to decide what to do for our August trip.
