To those who are claiming with ATOL...... Has anyone received their confirmation number yet?

Let us know when u do. We should be in Florida right now but are not due to XL going bust. We're absolutely gutted :(

No-one can give us a time-scale of when we will get our refund but i have read on an airline website that they will be dealing with the claims "in order of departure date". This would be great as i think it's the fairest way-we were SO close to going and cant afford to re-book anything until we have our money back. I now have 2 weeks holiday left at work which i have no idea if i'm taking it this year abroad, or in this crappy country.

There are still people stuck abroad so of course they will still be dealing with them at the moment. Does anyone else know any other info on the ATOL claim time-scale??

:confused3

Hiya

We too should be at Disney right now

We submitted our claim the day after XL went belly-up but have not gotten an acknowledgement of the claim yet, sent it registered though so I know its received. A colleague lost her holiday through Seguro and received her claim number late last week, 10 days after she submitted the forms. Atol advised us 4-6 weks normally, but its safe to say normal does not account for a company the size of XL going out of business and all the resultant claims. I imagine though that timescales are now fluid given the volume of claims going in.

I am going to move this to the UK Discussion Board. You will probably find more answers over there.

I am so terribly sorry to hear about this mess and all those canceled vacations. I hope you can get your money back soon and make new arrangements.

Hi there,
Has anyone who has submitted a claim to ATOL regarding XL heard anything back from them?
We submitted our claim the day XL went belly up and have heard absolutely nothing from ATOL.
My friend lost her Seguro holiday, submitted her claim same day as us, and got a confirmation letter 10 days later.
A work colleague of DH who also lost her Seguro holiday got her money back from ATOL last week.
I phoned ATOL on Friday just to check they got our claim form (though we did send it all recorded delivery), but no-one was able to check, and they didn't know what was happening.
I can absolutely appreciate how inundated they must be, and know this could take a while.....I just want to know if anyone else has heard anything - at least that way I know things are moving!
I'd feel more relaxed if I got my confirmation letter - the money will come when it comes (though the interest is building on my credit card for our rebooked hols!). I just want to know our stuff hasn't got lost!!!!
Sorry for the ramble :confused3

Hi there,

Thanks for responding. At least now I know things are moving. Nothing in the mail for us today but hopefully we'll hear soon.

Have you managed to rebook anything? We rebooked with Virgin for Nov, we hadn't had a holiday for 2 yrs and DH was adamant we were going to WDW THIS year!!!

Heard on the radio (radio 2) that there was a chance to exchange the holiday for a like for like and pay any extra, we tried that at Thomas Cook but they did not anything about it :confused3 , so we booked the whole holiday again with them.:woohoo:

We are also going out at the beginning of November, not long now!

Flying out on British airways (very expensive)
Rebooked another villa with pool, hire car, swim with the dolphins and, of course, the Disney tickets, all in all it cost about a fifth more,

At that time the holiday company were offering their own credit card with 0% interest for three months, so thinking we 'might' get our money back, we took that offer, glad we did as it looks like its going to be a while!

I would have gone with Virgin on hindsight as I have heard only good reports about it, especially the flights entertainment etc.

Have a great holiday!!!

Hi Ardentred,

Glad to know you've got something! When do you go? We fly out 31 Oct. Our holiday is pretty much the same, though we are flying from Gatwick this time - Glasgow prices were through the roof! :headache:

Initially it worked out about the same price, just slightly more, even though we lost out on free Disney Dining, and we were staying at POP. But we decided to through caution to the wind and upgrade to POFQ as we were gutted to miss out on it. Car hire isn't included in the Virgin package but we're just hiring a small car when we get there.

So now we're about £150 more per person as we have to factor in the cost of driving to Gatwick etc. Still, better than no holiday!

I'm like you - I'm doing a balance transfer to another card to try to keep costs down. I heard a ballpark figure of 16wks till refund recently.

Hope you have a great holiday too! :thumbsup2 :cheer2:

Flying from Gatwick on the 2nd of november!!!!

So looking forward to it, went 12 years ago, now going to re live my youth with my two boys (8 + 10)

I submitted my claim form on Monday 15th September and haven't heard anything yet. Like others on this forum, I sent it recorded delivery - and confirmed with the post office that they received it. My concern is the same as others. I just want to know that they are in receipt of my claim form and receive a claim reference number - once they have, I am happy to wait for the return of my money. At the minute, I am assuming they have received it when this might not be the case. Nobody on the phone will confirm they have received it but I have received a reply from an email I sent to CAA confirming that they have 20000 claims to deal with and they cannot confirm they have received mine. It will take some weeks for them to get the claim forms to the relevant claim officer and it is at that point that we will receive a letter with our claim reference number. The email also said that it will take 2 - 3 months from receiving your acknowledgement and claim reference number from the claims officer looking after your case to get your money back.

We also rebooked on the day that XL went bust with Virgin. Virgin then told us a week later that the holiday we booked with them was oversubscribed. Apparently, on the day that XL went bust, Virgin booked 3500 holidays and the virgin holidays computer system wasn't speaking to the virgin atlantic computer system so they overbooked some holidays. We were devastated again as most of the flights had now disappeared. Thankfully, we got a really helpful manager at Virgin who rebooked for us and gave us a lot of freebies as a gesture of goodwill.

We now fly from Gatwick (upgraded to Premium free of charge which will be a treat!) and fly back into Manchester. They also paid for a hire car so that we can get to Gatwick and they paid for overnight accommodation the night before so that we can travel from up north. Although Virgin mucked up on our original booking, they have been outstanding at putting things right for us. So much so that we have booked with them for next year too!

We are off on 28th October and can't wait - it is our favourite place in the world.

This forum has been great as I am no longer concerned that I haven't received my claim reference number yet - it seems like most of you are in the same position. Still, I will feel a lot happier when I do.

Hi there,
That's exactly how I feel - I'm so glad someone else is in the same position...you know it got there, but when you don't hear anything you do start to worry! :scared:
 About the mix up with Virgin - we've not heard anything yet so I assume there's no problem! But excellent news on the upgrade - it sounds as if they are quite on the ball anyway! :thumbsup2
You will be there at the same time as us! It's my spiritual home! :cloud9:

its not unusual to have not heard anything yet, in my experience the claims can take months but they DO always come through eventually.

Hooray!! I received my confirmation letter today (14th October) with my claim reference number. At least I know they got my forms. Just need to wait now - not expecting to get money for another 3 months though

My friend also got hers today so they are definitely in the process of replying to everyone. I would give it until the end of next week and if you haven't heard, email or phone them.

Is there anyone else out there who hasn't heard anything from ATOL? Or is it just me? :sad1: :scared:
I'm beginning to feel like the only one in the class who didn't get a party invite! :scared:
I'll give them till Friday next week then try emailing them - when you phone them all they say is 'they don't know'!

Hubby got his letter from the CAA with his confirmation number on it on Thursday

I put in 7 claims, still haven't had claim numbers yet, its really not anything to panic about though, they can take ages. Don't worry

Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!
It just felt like everyone else had got their confirmation numbers through!

according to Travel Weekly the CAA are starting payouts next week, could take several weeks before they've worked through all of them though.
