Professional Internship program date question

I think it depends on the internship. I interviewed in the fall of 2010 for an internship that went from January 2011-May 2011. My roommates who also started in January (all PIs) either continued through the end of May, June, and one extended to a full year. I was the earliest to finish (first week in May) and I probably got my internship the latest (got offered the job December 18th for a January 11 start date).

So do you think it is safe to say that if you are interviewing in the fall your intern more than likely will start in January? I am not concerned about the end date only the start months.
