Hey all!
I was wondering if anyone here has done or applied for a PI in Education, specifically the Alumni Youth Education Facilitator? I'm plannign to apply for Spring 2012 (I know, I still have lots of time...)

I am familair with the role itself, I'm just very nervous about the application process and was hoping for some advice. I did the International Program last summer, and although I've already talked with Disney (and been given the go-ahead to apply as an international alumni), I'm worried that being international might work against me as I haven't heard of any other internationals doing a PI before.

Anyways, any advice on applying or words of support would be awesome!

I'm currently on that PI! I absolutely love it = ) So if you have any specific questions, let me know! Don't stress about the audition video. If you can't go to one of the live auditions (I couldn't), then you just send in a 5 minute video of you facilitating a lesson. Typically you'll have your general screening interview, you'll submit your video, then they'll watch all the videos and decide who they want to interview again. You get an email from YES asking you for a second interview with 3 managers (mine was with the MK and DHS manager and also with the overall YES manager). They're really awesome though. It's seriously the best job ever. I love it!

Ooh, jealous; it sounds like you're having a lot of fun :) What's your favourite part of the PI program, if you don't mind me asking?

I actually have been stressing about the video part, more than anything else. I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I'm a History student, but I beleive that for YES you have to be trained in at least one science program (correct me if I'm wrong), so I wasn't sure if the video should be based on a certain subject and not. I think that's what really has me nervous, is just how vague the instructions were:P
Also, did you do your facilitate your lesson with an actual group of students? I volunteer at a school, so that shouldn't be a problem,I just wasn't sure.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help out! It is so greatly appreciated!

Not an intern, but I've worked with the Youth Education Series programs for a long time. There was an international intern a few years ago.

With the video, if it's anything like the audition process I had to go through, it's not about the content so much as the facilitation style. They're looking for people who facilitate, not present.

My audition piece was to pass out a piece of paper and pen to everyone in the room, and I read a list of simple instructions (fold it in half, tear off the bottom corner, mark a star on the top half, etc). At the end, I had everyone hold theirs up, and ask why nobody's looked the same, and what could I have done to make them look more similar , and how might something like this relate to a work environment.

Obviously, this wouldn't work if you're doing a "1 person talking directly to the camera" style video. If you could video a group of people doing it with you leading, it could work. (Not sure if this is allowed for videos or not ... like I said, I'm not an intern, so my audition process didn't have the video option)

(BTW: Hi Jourdan!)

Hi!! I'm really interested in that PI too! Sadly, I know almost nothing about it since the main website doesn't go into much detail. I didn't know there was a video needed for it. I'm currently a grad student, but I don't teach full time. Does the screening video insist on being a facilitation between yourself and other students? Also could you tell me what kind of duties and responsibilities you have with that PI? I read somewhere that you even get paid for it- is that true? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!! :goodvibes
