Process for transferring points...

I know a bit about renting, as there are numerous threads on the topic regarding contracts, how the process works, etc, but how do transfers work?

Does the person receiving the transfer pay first, then the transfer is made? Is there a sample contract or even the need for one? Do the points typically go for the same amount as renting?

On the surface of it, it would seem transfers would be easier and less hassle than renting. I am thinking of either renting/transferring some of my points every year in order to offset maintenance fees costs so am curious to know more about the process.

The process is whatever you make it. I have transferred points in once and transferred points out once. In both cases, payment was up front and then the transfer was done immediately with a phone call to MS. No contracts were used. Pricing isn't standard, either. It's whatever you agreed to with the fellow member.
