We have experienced a problem with both the king and the twin Select Comfort beds that we have - the mattress slides off the foundation. Company tells us that this can be remedied by using the rubber mats for rugs - but that hasn't helped.

The twin bed is my 74 year old Mothers and she has fallen twice due to the mattress slipping. We have had the beds for less than a year and the company's reps are not very helpful.

Any suggestions???

Rae

happens because the mattress is so light weight-we have only had a problem with the mattress sliding down toward the end of the bed which does not happen if you are using a bed frame with a large foot board-however my ln laws solved the problem by putting large pieces of industrial strength velcro on the top of the foundation and the bottom of the mattress-keeps the mattress in place but MIL can still move it around when changing sheets and what not.

It didn't happen at the store and that's why we are so concerned.
From what customer service has said, we could have a refurbished model (which we don't), but then a company rep said that this was a problem for the company a few years ago but they changed the design.

You just never know and their customer service is poor - at best.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Rae

We don't have this problem. I wonder if the bedskirt helps.

The vel-cro idea sounds promising.

We've never had a problem either, but I'll have to remember the velcro idea (or the footboard) if we do.

OMG I thought it was the way I slept because DH side never skids down !
I just told him I was not the only one . I am calling them in the morning , I am not taking a refurbished bed either . For what we paid for this bed it should be right . I wish I had not paid cash for it now , so at least I could withhold payments till it was right .

Good luck and please keep us posted on what happens with yours .

Mad4Mickey - Oh it isn't us, friend! My Mom is 74, about 125 lbs and has the twin in the middle of her bedroom. She put her hand down for support as she was going to sit down and the mattress slid off the foundation and she ended up on the floor.

Thankfully, she was hurt, but that isn't to say it won't happen again. She did have those "nonskid" rubber mats as we were previously told to do and that didn't do a thing to keep it from sliding.

It should not be OUR responsibility to make this product safe and furthermore, why don't the beds in the showroom slide???????

More questions, keep in touch with me on this and let's see if we can get any satisfaction.

Again, thanks for the replies -

Rae

I think that we should band up together . Saftey in numbers !!!!
I say we make them make it right !
I will let you know what is going on and you do the same

I'm just wondering if other than the slipping problem, are you happy with your beds?

My husband with degenerative arthritis says he has better sleep and much less pain without the tossing and turning to relieve the pain stops.

My 74 year old Mom with hip problems is also very pleased with it.

I have insomnia and if you recall the "Princess and the Pea" story, well, don't use me as your deciding factor - I still can't find my "number" - which relates to the firmness of the mattress.

I think it's a good product but this slipping off the foundation is not only a nuisance because your pillows fall into the void between the mattress and headboard, but you are forever moving it to put it back into place. Yes, it is light weight BUT the manufacturer should have taken that into account when making the bottom of the mattress and top of the foundation and utilized some material that is less slippery!

I mean think of the answers we have been given so far - (1)buy rubbermaid products to keep it from sliding around; (2) buy a footboard to keep it from sliding down and (3) put it against a wall to keep it from moving side to side.

Does that sound like a product that is worth the money????
Not when you find out that in the showrooms the beds don't move at all - and there was no wall, footboard OR rubbermaid products keeping the mattress still.

I TRIED yesterday for a very long time (three times on hold for over 15 minutes) to speak with a LIVE customer representative - now I am taking it to our local consumer advocate personality and letting him deal with them.

I live in Indiana - so Rafael, here I come!

We've had ours for a year in the middle of our room and have never had it slide at all. We do have a headboard and footboard. And I do have the "box spring" covered with a sheet - which might add some friction. Its a Queen, which is probably a little heavier than your mom's twin.

We have had a king size sleep number bed, and have not had a slipping problem at all. We even had to elevate the head of the bed this year because of a breathing problem. We do have to push the mattress up when we make the bed, but it is only an inch or two and I expected that with having the head of the bed elevated. We do have a bed skirt on, so maybe that helps it grip a bit.

Could you both tell me when you bought your Select Comforts?

We got ours this past spring.

I tried the bedskirt idea and that didn't help. Just so strange about how all this is....

I am so sorry you are having this problem! We've had ours about 2.5 years I think and haven't had any more problems with a mattress moving than any other mattress I have ever owned! We do have a queen and a footboard on ours, but still ours seems heavy enough not to move, but not too heavy for me to move it myself if needed. We don't have a bed skirt on ours either so I cna't say I even have that to help. I ordered mine from a store in Columbus, Ohio area and it was shipped just like all others would be I guess. And any questions I have had, I usually go to the store and ask myself. I hope your mom gets this figured out.

Thanks Helenabear - just surprising to find that the showroom mattresses don't move an inch and the ones at home slip and slide like you wouldn't believe!

I did ask the Select Comfort representative to have someone come see for themselves but so far, no one is interested. Guess there is no service after the sale.

HI!

BUT if you are ever interested in a Select Comfort mattress, you have been forewarned. I think I could sleep on the floor if it were in 5622. In fact, that may be my solution..... I wonder how many DVC points it would take to be permanently there!!!!

Hugs!

We have had ours for about four years.

My mother works at Select Comfort. I showed her this thread. She says that Select Comfort is very concerned about Customer service. She said for anyone who is having problems to give her a personal call. She will make sure they get routed to the right person. Her direct line at work is: 763-551-7168

one cat - I will call her Monday, unless my pneumonia worsens.
Tell her that I appreciate this very much - and I do thank you for your assistance. Waiting for someone to answer the 800 number has been futile!!

I wil send you a private e-mail -

Rae
