Member Services is for MEMBERS which you are not. They do not run a reservation service for my fellow members who were profiting off of you, it's the job of the member to deal with them for you. Ask your renter to send you the written confirmation if you would love to see it in writing.

I don't think your rant is going to get much sympathy here as this has been discussed in detail for the past few months.

If you want to be able to use the Member line, go buy some DVC points. It's for members.

I Agree I Am Not A Member I Im A Potential Buyer I Wanna Se What Im B,uying Before I Buy Like Test Driving A Car..so I Think They Could Be A Little More Helpful In The Service Department..and I Would Rather Give The Money To Member Owners Like Yourself. Rather Than Pay The Over Omflated Pricr To Disney Direct Or Stay In A Shotty Vaule Resort..

Have the DVC owner provide a copy of the confirmation that Disney sends out. That's all the confirmation DVC owners get, so that should work for you too I'd think.

And what would you gain by having Member Services confirm a ressie? The member could cancel it the moment you are off the phone from member services. A copy of the written confirmation from the member should be sufficient.

Disney will always be happy to confirm all reservations made thru them. In this case, you are not reserving thru Disney at all - you have chosen to rent from a private individual and will need to get your confirmation from them.

The resort will have your reservation information a few days ahead of your arrival and they will be able to confirm your reservation at that time.

As already stated, DVC Member Services is for members and they will not assist with reservations except thru the member who made them. Members receive a printed confirmation letter - hopefully you have or will receive that for your records.

Have a great stay! :)

I think we can all understand why you want to confirm, most of us would feel somewhat the same way if we were in your shoes. Until a month or so ago, DVC would actually do what you ask. I suspect you can still confirm through the resort once within a week or two of your trip. You could always ask the member for a 3 way call though I suspect most wouldn't be comfortable due to the sensitive identification questions they ask. As noted, it ultimately comes down to trust and you're gambling for the savings involved.

I am now a member (yay!) but I have rented before as well. And I, too, wanted that confirmation...just as a measure of comfort. After all, you are giving a sizeable chunk of change to a stranger and hoping that person will behave in an honest manner. I understand where you are coming from.

However, here is where/why you will not receive much sympathy from those on this board:

As members, we pay relatively hight maint. fees (dues). One of the things these dues cover is the cost of Member Services. Our dues pay for their salaries, offices, overhead, etc. Thus, many members feel that the MS CMs' time should be spent servicing members...and members only.

If you truly need confirmation and need it quickly you can get it by doing the following: Contact the member from whom you rented points. Ask that member to contact MS and have MS fax them the confirmation. MS will usually do this the same day (at least this is what I have been told...never actually done it). Then, once the member has received the fax, he/she can fax it on over to you the same day.

However, all of this is somewhat unnecessary unless your trip is this week. Once the member makes a res in your name (and it will have your address on it, etc.) you will receive written confirmation from Disney...an actual letter with a reservation number on it and everything. Assuming your trip is at least 2 months away (and it is likely more), you will get your confirmation way before your trip. Thus, I would just wait and skip the whole faxing thing.

Also, what others have said here is accurate...even though you get that paper from Disney with your name and confirmation number on it, there is nothing to keep the member from whom you rented from calling Disney and simply cancelling the reservation. Disney would not contact you to tell you that the res. has been cancelled since you are not the member. Please note that I am not saying this to scare your nor discourage you from the transaction. I think that the vast majority of DVC rental transactions go off without a hitch, so you are likely all set.

If you are truly nervous about the whole rental transaction, you can use one of the many sample contracts that are available here on the DIS.

I hope that your rental goes smoothly and that you fall in love with whichever DVC resort you rent.

Or you can make a rental directly through Disney CRO.

JMHO but... You say you are a "Potential Buyer" yet to me, I find it strange that you would not pay CRO for a few nights in a villa but are totally willing to drop at least $15,000 to buy in.

If you are unhappy with the situation then dont rent. Nobody is twisting your arm. Disney/DVC is NOT the bad guy here. If you want to see the villas before you buy then take the tour.

It's called MEMBER Services for a reason.

No sympathy from me either. Calling for confirmation is really meaningless anyway as others have said. It was just a feel-good for the renters, it doesn't provide any REAL security. I'm not interested in having my maintenance fees spent to make renters feel good. Sorry.

I think it's outrageous that non-members were ever able to call in the first place. Hello!!!! It's called MEMBER SERVICES!!
