Hi all!
I'm new here so please forgive me if I'm posting to the wrong board.
I've tried playing the Yeti Vision game, downloaded and installed correctly, but it won't load for me. It's just a black screen. I've set my firewall to allow it access to the internet.
Any tips on how to get it to work so I can get the codes?
Thanks so much!

First of all, Welcome to the DIS! :cheer2:

I've always had this same problem with the game. I think either my computer hates it or it hates my computer! :teeth:

I have come across no ideas to get it to work either. :confused3

I hope that someone else can help you and maybe it would also help me.

But I've faced the fact that there are a couple of the off-site games that I'm unable to play. :sad2:

try turning off your windows firewall - some people have had this same issue and that fixed it

I tried for 7 months to play yeti on my old computer it never worked. I tried every kind of upgrade: software and hardware and it never worked. I tried all the firewall and antivirus , etc helps that people posted it never worked.

We got a new computer about 2 months ago and it works fine.

Interesting info cat_herder. It makes me wonder what the minimum system requirements are for the game. Maybe having an older computer is the problem. I tried to find a list of the minimum system requirements but they seem to be a big secret. :confused3 Maybe someone will have better luck than I did. If you do find a list of requirements, please post them and have Mal add them to the player's guide.

That is weird you ask about this because i have been playing yeti for the past few months with no problems and then yesterday instead of it loading right away, it went through all of these "loading files from server" pages. Now every once in awhile it works and other times it doesn't and i haven't changed a thing. At least not to my knowledge has anything changed on my computer. yesterday yeti tried to load and it switched around all of my desk top icons. I couldn't believe it. So something must be going on with it lately.

I just played without any problems.

I had the same problem with the Yeti game until i went out and upgraded my video card that seemed to solve the problem

Thank you all so much for your help! I've disabled the firewall and done everything else I can think of to do, but it still won't work. It's no big deal, as I was just going to play to get a few codes to see what I could get with them. Guess I'll just go back to the Narnia game. LOL
My sincerest appreciation to all of you for taking the time to reply to me.

I tried reinstalling the game, just to see if that would work (it didn't), and noticed that the system requirements are listed during installation. Truthfully, I didn't notice if they gave Mac requirements, but here are the PC requirements:

In order to play, you'll need a PC with:

- An Intel Pentium 3 1.0 GHz CPU or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz CPU
- At least 256 MB of RAM
- An Nvidia GeForce or newer, ATI Radeon or newer, or Intel i845G/i865G
- A DirectX 3-compliant sound card
- A 2-button mouse and keyboard
- Microsoft Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows ME, or Windows XP
- DirectX 8
- A DSL or better internet connection

I believe my video card is the problem. I got it to play a couple times on my husband's laptop, but he said it messed up his Internet Explorer somehow, so no more playing! LOL I used those codes, not knowing they were single use, but someone here offered to send me some codes, which I'll give to my son to use on his account. I'd have given them all to him had I known they couldn't be used on different accounts. He'll get the Yeti room, which is what he really wants anyway, so all is well.
Thanks again to everyone!

After reviewing those requirements, I think my problem may also be my video card.

Unfortunately, I can't get a new one right now.

They seriously need to think of what people may actually have before they create these games.

Thank you for the list of minimum requirements! That will be a great help.

Mal, would you add the list to the guide?

I discovered yesterday that the Buzz AstroBlaster game won't work on my computer, either. I noticed the requirements just as I was clicking the install button, but the quick glance I got at them seemed to be the same requirements as for the Yeti game. I know the video card requirement was the same.
I won't be upgrading my video card right now either, but next time I do upgrade or get a new computer, I'll confirm that the video card is the most up-to-date one available! LOL

And I wanted to give a big Thank You to everyone who has sent Yeti codes for my son! Y'all are just the nicest, kindest group of people I've ever encountered on a discussion board!

Not to sound like a sour apple, but thise minimum requirements are the minimum of any PC sold in at least the last 3 years - even my cheapo 6 year old Gateway will has those (I bought it in December 2000 and it was the bottom of the barrel at that time)

Well, then I don't know what the heck the problem is. My computer wasn't cheap when I bought it 5 years ago.

But it may be because when I bought my computer, I wasn't planning on playing internet games on it. All the requirements are met by my computer except for (I think) my graphics card.

In fact, my old computer has handled just about everything somewhat fine except for the Yeti game and the Astroblaster game.

What I was saying is that not everyone that plays VMK is a big time gamer and buys their computers for that purpose. And since I and the OP are not the only people who have problems with these games, it stands to reason that VMK doesn't take into account that not every can play these games that they produce.

Well, as a sometimes web designer, you have to weigh many factors into design, and cost and effectiveness of your product are two main things you take into account. Since probably 98% of all PCs can run these games without a problem, and 100% of all PC made within the last 2-3 years, they more than likely made a conscious choice to use the relatively low requirements that they do. to go any lower would make the games practically text based.

I still do not see the problem they have with trying to make sure that people can play the games. Why on earth would I have problems with only those two games and not the other games they have released?

I can play the Kellogg's Pirate, the Narnia, the POTC2, the Pirate Adventure, the Monsters and the Blizzard Beach games.
Just what about these two games makes them so special? :confused3

The only difference I can think of is that both of those games are downloaded to your computer (mine are under Program Files/Disney...), whereas the other games are online games.
