Problem with PSE 6.0 - HELP!

I'm hoping someone has a clue what my problem is. I purchased Photo shop Elements 6.0 today. i have installed it and I have nothing but problems. I am running XP. My laptop locks up when I do ANYTHING at all. If I open a photo to edit it it takes forever to go to the edit page, then if I do anything it locks up. This is very frustrating since it seems like most people use this and I can't get it to work. Any ideas?

PSE requires a ton of memory to run smoothly. Maybe your laptop isn't sufficient?

It is my brand new work laptop and I'm a programmer so I would think it's ok.
When I open it and go to preferences, it says I have enough RAM. I'm going to try it on my home PC and see how it works. I may return it and go to an older version.

Have you checked your video card? My work laptop has a crap VC, and my old home one did too. Even had problems running PSE4. Got my new home one about 8 months ago and upgraded my VC, works great now!

I use PS@ and know in there it has a section for a scratch disk. If you have abn enternal HD or if your HD is partioned off make sure you use that as the scratch. If you are using hte same HD that will slow down the system and all of the things you do. Making a scratch disk will speed thing up.
