Problem with MS and OKW ressie

We made a ressie several months ago for a 2 BR lock off, accessible villa at OKW to begin 3/6/05 until 3/11. As you may know MS confirms all accessible ressies. I think they actually assign the accessible villa at that time.
When we made the ressie we expected my Sister and BIL to go with us. Illness now prevents them from going. I called MS and asked to modify the ressie to a 1 BR, droppinig the lock off studio.
The CM said she could not do this. She said she had to cancel the entire 2 BR and since OKW was booked that I would lose the ressie and could not offer me an OKW alternative. She said my 2 BR would go to the wait list. She offered to look at SSR or WLV for a 1 BR but that is not what I want.
This doesn't seem right to me. I thought they could modify the existing ressie and that would free up a studio. The CM said that could not be done. Do you think I should take this up the line to a supervisor ? Am I looking at this wrong ? I still have several days before the holding period will kick in. We might get stuck with the whole 2 BR, which is not a bad deal but I would like to save the 30 points.

The process communicated to you is exactly correct. Even when you reserve a lockoff, it is booked as a 2B. You can't just drop-off the studio portion. The 2B has to be cancelled first, and would then be eligible to go to any members on the waitlist. Then they can try to re-book you into a vacant unit.

I am sorry, but tjkraz is correct. It is not a matter of "dropping" part of your ressie. You have to be booked in the computer as a 1bdrm instead of a 2bdrm. This requires MS to cancel your ressie, and re-book you. As soon as your ressie is cancelled, they immediately see if there is a waitlist...if so, you lose your ressie.

I think this policy was created to keep people from "overbooking" for dates. The same thing has to be done at the 7 month window if you are "switching" which points you are using for a reservation. They must cancel the reservation, and then re-book it with different points. Once it is cancelled, the waitlist comes into play. Of course...I could be wrong...it could just be the way the computer program is written.

Thirty points is not that big of a deal. I would just "eat" the points. However, if you are really concerned about this, you might want to list the "studio" part on the rent/trade board. Of course, you would have to be VERY upfront with the people you are "sharing your ressie with".

Good luck,

Beca

As noted, this is the rule NOW. It hasn't always been that way but it is more fair. You may want to call a couple of times and you may get a different answer on another try. You could always do the wait list then only cancel if you match it. If you do, you'll need to do it for the entire stay as a lump unless you want to take the chance of having to move during the middle of your stay.

For this reason some people book two reservations then cancel what they don't think they'll need. I did that for early June with 2 studio AND a 2 BR for 5 nights excluding weekends.
