We stayed at OKW last week and had a fantastic time at the resort, well all but one night. We went to the main pool and were appalled by the recklessness of a couple of teenagers and parents there. When you are in the pool and are looking towards the spitting dolphins there is a lifeguard stand. Next to that stand there is a wooden post. These boys were climing up on top of that post and DIVING and jumping into the water! At one point this older and much taller (he looked to be almost 6') boy pulled up a chair next to the post and climed it to get to the top of the post. Actually, a woman that was at the pool with him took the chair over to the post. This was such an accident waiting to happen. I couldn't stand it so I had to leave. I went in to tell a manager at the front desk, but everyone was busy so I went into the gift shop to see if they could tell me if there was any security on th property, but the ladies in their said no. I told the manager in the gift shop what was going on and she said that she would handle it. Meanwhile, dh and the kids were still at the pool, and I was tired so I went back to our unit. DH and the kids came back about 1 hour later and said that no one came to deal with the problem people. He said that after I left they started jumping off of the bridge!

The next day when we were at the pool I made mention of it to 2 of the lifeguards and they said that there was nothing that they could do if it happened again at night. They said that they would pass it along to their manager so that security would make more patrol checks at night after 10.

I just don't know that there was anything else I could have done, but the whole situation really bothered me - A LOT! So there is my vent. Thanks for listening!

That is disturbing...I am surprised at the answer that there is no security, or very little. We have stayed at OKW a number of times and there are definitely patrols that pass regularly through the pool areas. The Southpoint pool sometimes has problems with loud guests in the hot tub late at night and they will come deal with that.

Yes, there is security, but by postings, the pools are closed after 10 PM. THe security will check on their rounds, but they can't be at all 4 pools constantly.

And the worst part is that those are the kind of people that would end up suing Disney for millions and millions if something did go wrong. Tacky and a shame. :sad2:

I was just saying that....people just won't take responsibility for their own actions!!!! Something like that happened at a campground we went to last year, and I actually said something to the kids that were causing the problem...when the "mother" came over and told me to mind my own business, and then encouraged them to continue!! We got up and left. There are times when I wonder why God gave humans to ability to chose right from wrong...:confused3

maciec, good for you for trying to solve the problem. As "owners" there we need to be proactive with our vacation time.

Sometime between last summer and this summer the pool hours changed. I would SWEAR the pools used to close at midnight. I am SURE, absolutely SURE that was the case. This year we were specifically told at both AKL and SSR that the pools are open 24 hours. :scared:
I know there are shorter hours that there are lifeguards on duty, but I am positive the pools were NOT 24 hours before.
I would think that would make it even more important to have security patrolling the pools.

Was the slide closed? I thought a lifeguard was required when the slide was open.

Before the slide, OKW pool was always open, but there was never a life guard...at least that I can remember....forgive me if I am wrong. We were in one night, and saw the shuttle take off as we were drinking drinks in the hot tub; and it was late.

We were there this January and when the pool was technically closed, the slide was not running...actually, when the lifeguards came on duty, one of the kids in our group was crowned pool princess and had the "right" to turn on the pool...very cute. But I don't remember any movie night. :confused3

The slide was closed. All I could think about was one of these people hitting the bottom and calling 911 for a neck and back injury. And then our dues going up because of people suing DVC for their stupidity. What's wrong with people these days!

We had had some security issues at OKW. On our last visit there were adults sitting on the stairs going to the rooms smoking and when we call and asked security to come over it seemed like a major issue for them, same thing when we had very loud neighbors in the room next door.

This was the only time in 10 trips I have ever had an issue with people smoking on the stairs and loud people.
