My wife called and was told by Disney that even though the first BCV use month for sale currently is December, if we purchased now we would owe pro-rated fees for the next 8 or so months, even though we don't get any points to use till December. Is this correct? If so, what is the rationale for charging fees for something you can't use(w/o borrowing points)?

I assume you are using MB. If so, you did have use of the points you just opted to sell them. I bought points this week with a March use year and will owe either 10 or 11 months of dues on them. I did not do MB so I have the points for use now.

It's true, I got the same answer this morning. Get a 2002 contract and then you will get another years points. They will still be prorated but at least you will have them.

Gotcha. That makes sense. The $1500 discount is really more like $1100 once I factor in the fees. OR, I could just take the 150 points and use em.

The DisBoards have lots of people who are willing to buy your points for about $10 each. Disney is not doing you much of a favor with a $5 or$10 MB. With Vero it is $15, but then Vero has higher fees. Unless you really want to buy Vero (the 11 month window helps get the beach cottages) I don't think much of the Magical Beginnings!

Personally, I don't see a big difference between using Magical Beginnings and keeping the points if you only plan to rent them out and not bank them to the next use year. $10 is $10, you'll still have to pay the fees, whether Disney uses them or you rent them, and with MB you don't have to go through the hassle of finding a renter and drawing a contract, or waiting for payment. If you could rent them for substantially more, maybe it would be worth the hassle, but that certainly is unlikely.

The trick is to buy just before the deadline to sell back for MB.

I gotta agree with Chuck. If Disney is paying you $1500 for $1500 worth of points, where is the discount? I used MB on my add-on because I didn't need the first year's points anyway, but I didn't feel like I was getting a deal. It was just a convenient way to rent my points.

I'm afraid I don't understand. Could you please elaborate?

I did this. I wanted an April use year and waited until September 1999 to buy. September 30th was the deadline to use MB for an April use year (100% banking deadline). That way I only paid for dues from September to December in 1999 and got a full year of points in April 2000.
