DH had the PRK surgery on his eyes Thursday afternoon. He is in a terrible amount of pain. I keep putting the drops in his eyes for him and he is taking his medicine, but he said that his eyes are really painful (intense, constant pain - his words) and he can barely open them past slits and they are really sensitive to the light. He said it's like someone has poured Tabasco sauce in his eyes. All he wants to do is be in a dark room.

Anyone had this experience and if so, any tips? I'm trying to help him, keeping track of his medicine and drops schedule and making sure he is drinking enough but I have a wretched cold and I'm trying to take care of a teething one year old who is now catching my cold too. It's a good time here in my house :lmao:

Never had it, but I would be calling the doc that did the procedure and run the situation by them! If they aren't available, an ER visit might be a good idea. These are his eyes you are talking about....

Call the doc or after hours #. I had my lens implant repositioned 2 months ago and on my instructions it said extreme pain is never normal. I have no idea what to expect with what he had done but I would call. I would not let this go until morning he could have a bad infection.

I had PRK a few years ago. For me the pain was caused by any light. I actually took the vicodin they gave me for a few days. (I don't even like taking OTC pain relievers)

If the pain is that severe I would call the after hours care.

I went through sever pain, it seemed as though the 1st few days weren't so bad. Has he had his protective contacts taken out? My eyes were worse after that. I was severely light sensitive as in extreme pain, for a long time. I had it done in FEb. and by our May trip to WDW i was ok. And when I mean light I am talking about a totally dark room with just the TV on, and I had to wear sunglasses for that.

I had one eye done the regular laser way and one done by PRK. I found the PRK was extremely painful! And extremely light sensitive, I was wearing sunglasses outside even at night! Never hurts to get it checked out though!

Wow ... I'm suprised they would do both eyes at the same time.
Are you happy with the results? A friend at work had the laser about 6 yrs ago. She never mentioned recovery but was happy with it after.

Yep at the same time, other wise I probably would have never had it done the second time. lol

Actually I had severe scaring on my corneas and they didn't know why. My Dr was one of the top in the world. He was wonderful, and yes I am very happy with he results.

Now laser and PRK can be different. PRK does involve laser, but it isn't the same as lasik, some people think it is. The recovery time is a lot longer. It was horrible at the time, and I doubted my decision to do it, but as everything healed, I am very happy with the results.

Oh no! I just read that to him and he is not happy. He gets the lenses taken out on Wednesday. He ended up calling the doctor at home who said to fill a RX for another kind of drops. I just went to pick them up and he said that it made them feel a little better and he was able to open his eyes. That was about an hour ago but he says that he feels the pain coming back.

I am going to see if I am candidate for the PRK or Lasik in a couple weeks. Seeing his recovery so far makes me not want to get the PRK, that's for sure. I hope that's not the one that I am the candidate for!

My husband and I both had both eyes done the same day. I had scaring as well caused probably my calcium deposits as a result of allergies.

PRK does take longer to heal but worth it. I do have to wear glasses now, but my new prescription only costs about $300 including the frame. My old prescription was $1,500 for the lenses only.

So glad you are happy with the results. :) My friend was glad she had it done too. She had the Lasik (i believe)

I will never do anything like that because of all of the eye surgeries I've had in the past. Cataracs both eyes, (at a young age) Retina detachment and now just got over having a lens implant moved back in place. It was a rare thing to happen from catarac surgery. After all of that thank God I have good vision.

If I had never been through all of that than yes I'm sure I would of had no problem having Lasik or PRK to have better vision. :)

I am sorry, maybe he will be different. Be sure and get lots or lubricating drops for him,( ask the Dr which ones he prefers) I lived on those things. Trust me, he will think it is worth it in the end. My friends' DH went through he same thing. He would call me to vent and ask questions, because she didn't understand how it felt. One day he will wake up and the majority of the sensitivity will be gone. Although not entirely, my eyes are still very sensitive, but they were before the surg.

Lets put it this way. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy last year. It was a piece of cake compared to the PRK surg. Yes I am still glad I had it, yes it was worth it, but it is painful and very frustrating. I only tell the truth and don't want to sugar coat it for you.
