Private small jet rentals?

I was going to put this in the budget board, but then thought better of it..

This may be pie in the sky but..

Has anyone ever looked into a small private plane rental rather than taking a large commercial airliner?

If so.. any ideas of costs? I am seeing an average cost of about $220 per hour for "touring flights"... so would it be possible to book a 5 hour "tour"?

Yes, we have. We have a total of 11 people going on this years vacation from Syracuse to Orlando (plus 4 for Chicago, 1 from Boston and 2 from KY). To rent a jet (heavy executive) from SYR to MCO would be about $30,000. Now obviously a smaller number of people you could get into a smaller jet, but the cost per person would still be the same or more.

The cheapest types of planes to rent are turbo props. You also wouldn't want to bother traveling more then a few hundred miles in a turbo prop plane, it would take a long time and would require a refuel stop because of limit of range. If you're thinking about a single prop plane used in tours, no way, the range is very short and they're not very comfortable.

Most private jet rentals that I have done have been closer to $1500-$2000 an hour. That is for a Learjet or other plane that sits about 5-8 people.

yeah.. $2000 an hour (plus taxes) was the response we just recieved.. i think i would rather take that $20,000 round trip fee and apply it to my trip!!

Just out of curiosity I spec'd it out from Nashville to MCO last month and it came to just over $13,000 round trip on a small Lear.
