is there a thread that anyone knows of regarding transferring ownership of our Disney Vacation Club points to someone else? We have a close friend who wants our points. I couldn't find the info in the guidebook, and couldn't search because that function has been disabled. Is there any info available that anyone is aware of like the transferring points 101 thread but just transferring to a non-DVC member? I changed the name of this post for more answers specific to this question.

If you are meaning a one-time event so that they can take a vacation on your points, you just need to make a reservation for them and put their name on the ressie.

If you mean owner-ship, that is more involved and someone else will have to answer for you.

This is an actual real estate transaction since you aren't really giving/selling points, you are selling your real estate interest as represented by points (that's what you actually bought from DVC). With a non-relative I'm not sure if there is any way to get around Disney's right of first refusal. I've seen similar discussions -- maybe someone will add on to this thread.

there is no way around that - not looking for a way around it...just looking for information...I called Member Admin. and they will send the info. Thanks

I didn't mean "get around" in any deceptive way. I just was wondering myself if I wanted to "give" my ownership to a friend for free or a reduced price whether Disney would allow it or whether they would have the option to buy it at some reduced price. I guess they would.

Actually the physical process of buying a resale is easy. Even if you wanted to do everything you're self except maybe prepare the deed. Here's he steps.
  • prepare and have all parties sign a legal contract defining the DVC contract for sale and the legal way thing should be listed on the deed. Spell out all aspects like the number of points, points accounting, sale price and who pays for what including yearly fees, closing. Also a time table should be included.
  • Once that is done, send it to DVC for their interpretation for ROFR. They will notify the seller either that they are buying it or will send a legal waiver which must be recorded with the deed.
  • Once you have the waiver, you just need the deed prepared and signed along with the transfer of monies.
  • Then send a copy of the deed to DVC along with the $100 transfer fee and the original along with the original waiver to Orange county with the proper fees for recording. A phone call or two to orange county should produce the exact address, contact person, contact phone and correct fees.
Timeshare transfers will do this for $250 including recording but I assume they add the $100 transfer extra or at least the difference between the $100 plus closing and their $50 limit on closing fees. One should be able to get a deed done for $75-100 if that's all they need.

I even have the fax number to send it to. I also have a couple email contacts but without their permission, would not be willing to give them out.

You can't cut them a deal unless you do it illegally. If you make the price too low, DVC will buy it back.
