Private Pre-K and Prep Pre-K?

In my school (I work there as an SLP) the ratio is 6:1 with two Masters level teachers in every classroom. The school is developmentally appropriate and the kids have specials classes in dance, music, art, woodworking, science, and library. My DD (3) tuition would be 18,500 but since I work there it's down to 10,500 and my boss takes it out pretax. My youngest daughter will be in the Tues/Thurs class in the fall and her tuition in 9,500 (4,500 for me). We also have staff daycare that is only 4,500 for the year. I know that since I'm going to work this is actually a great deal for me. I love DC but it is hard being a "middle class" Mom in this type school sometimes. I mean middle class here is pretty much a family making above 100,000 a year. Many Moms at my school don't work, have 1 to 2 nannies, and pay upwards of 50,000 a year in preschool tuition. We're thinking of moving closer to our family in NC next year b/c of the craziness!

I have had friends who are christians and christian teachers try to persuade me to send him to public school because there needs to be good christian kids in public schools for the other kids who dont know Christ yet.

I have no words.

But see, thats okay, you can have your own views and choices. That is what makes the world go round right. I think nothing negative of people who don't send their kids to private school, secular or not. But I DO want religion brought into my daughters school, so I chose to send her there. Its my choice and I certainly pay for it. There are non-secular private schools and public for those who dont. Its just the the choice to attend church or not, its your choice, and not my role to tell you what to do or how to raise your children. We all chose to raise our children how we best see fit for them.

You missed what I was responding to - the fact that one poster said that people were telling her to send her kid to public school to be able to preach to the other kids there.

Yeah, I saw that. Sorry, thought you were exploding over the sending of children to secular schools. I see now that it was to that mantality. :teeth: Thanks for explaining.

We are in Ohio with a Accredited Center that includes a age-appropriate circulum including weekly foreign language, gymnastics or Dance (tap/Ballet), and hot lunches/two snacks a day. All teachers are degreed.

Pre-School Hours 7AM-6PM Ratio 1:12 Monthly Cost $810 or $9720/Annually
Private Kindergarten(9AM-3PM) with before/after school care Ratio 1:18 Monthly Cost $646 or $7,752/Annually (Including Summer Programs)

My DD is in a Pre School/ Pre K. Then Kinder it will cost 7,750 per year but its 50 weeks from 7am to 5:30pm no added fees, she gets 2 snacks and a hot lunch everyday. So I don't think the price is bad. It cost me less than some daycares around RI.

OP, Given that you live in California, I don't find that price surprising.

I'm in the suburbs of Detroit and I think its safe to assume that the cost of living here in the midwest is cheaper than California. My DS is at a daycare academy that has pre-school. There are full time and part-time options. He will go to full time when he's old enough. Right now its about $10,500 for pre-school. Many of the kids (but not necessarily mine) will go onto private schools in the area and those cost MORE than college tuition so I guess comparatively the $10,500/yr isn't so bad. Its certainly cheaper than his daycare is now (I pay $12,600 for 4 days a week, more when he was an infant). Oh and I should mention that the additional classes, tumbling, etc cost extra. For the full time kids, snacks are included. Lunch isn't included, not even for daycare - we pack his every day.

I'm already stressing about where he'll go to Kindergarten and he isn't even 2 yet. I need a vacation!!! :teeth:
