Hi, we are considering purchasing a DVC resale and one big question we have is which DVC resorts have private balconies? What I mean by private is a privacy wall or separator of some sort that prevents your next door neighbors from making eye contact with you. My husband and I realized how important this was to us when we stayed at WL last week and we enjoyed that "privacy."

I put the word in quotes because our balcony faced the pool so lots of families spoke to us on their way to the boat dock. We quite enjoyed that part, but realized that we don't want to have to see our next door neighbor each time we step out. It looked like all the WL villas had open views on all sides. TIA.

I can't speak for all of the resorts because we haven't stay at all of them yet. But I know, from staying there, that Saratoga Springs and Kidani Village both have private balconies with the divider walls that you spoke of.

Good luck with your decision to buy! We purchased in April and are so pleased!! I really wish we had done it sooner!

Sometimes it depends on the room. At BWV, I've had rooms with walled balconies and other times not.

I agree.

I could have also played football on my walled off balcony...and could barely turn around on some of the not walled off balconies.

I feel your pain.....I love my private balcony....and I love WLV....maybe because i was AMAZED that every time i went on my balcony.....noone was ever there....

Some rooms at BWV and BCV are private.....it's luck of the draw though.

Even with the wall you can still hear everything happening on the other balcony, parents yelling at kids, DH yelling at DW who was in the room, or vice versa, conversations complaining about the extended family who they are sharing the room with. At least everything was "G" rated. I have to admit though that people at AKV really forget that they are supposed to be quiet on the balconies for the animals.

But having a "private balcony" that you don't see anyone else is nice. It makes you feel like the view is all yours.

Here are 3 balconies, all were "walled", two were end units

And the units at VGC are also walled on both sides. Funny I don't have a picture of that one, I love balconies.

:)Great question. I'm a picky balcony person myself! We are going in May and staying for 8 days at the BCVs in a 2br and one of my requests was a larger balcony that would seat more than 2 people. After the kids are in bed, the rest of the family enjoys sitting on the balcony and reviewing our day. The privacy walls are nice, too.

OKW balconies are private, and those on the 1-, 2-, & grand villas are quite large in comparison to the balconies at the other DVC resorts.

Same here. One time at BWV, I was inches away from the next balcony, not walled. Another time, balcony was walled. At VWL, the one time we stayed there, we noticed that all the balconies we noticed on our side of the building, were very open, which is one thing we didn't like.

They are private in that no other guest can access your patio/balcony. But they are not private in that others can sit on their balcony and watch everything you do on yours. We've had enclosed balconies at BCV and fully open ones at BCV. The one we had at VWL was fully open to every guest on that side of the building.

The Villas at the Grand Californian have private balconies, but I'm assuming that you are talking about the Florida resorts specifically?

We have only stayed at SSR and to be honest, I only came in contact with other people on their balcony once out of about 5 trips. I think once our balcony was enclosed and the rest we were exposed :rolleyes1:rolleyes1.

I have stayed at every Disney resort and DVC and I would not consider any of them totally private, some more so than others but even with the dividers you can hear and see your neighbors.

Yes, specifically Florida resorts.

We aren't really looking for a totally private balcony; we just want the privacy wall or balcony location that means even though we may hear our neighbors, we don't have to speak to them if we prefer not to. I guess it is more the illusion of privacy that we are after since I don't recall a single private space any where at WDW.;)

At OKW you can barely see anyone on the other balconies because there are few buildings that have views of other buildings. Sometimes you'll hear the folks above or below you if you are in the middle floor though. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the huge OKW balconies! It's like having another outdoor room!

Thanks for the replies and pics; this has been most helpful!

Even the OKW studios have generous balconies! We didn't even know we had neighbors. :goodvibes

A few years ago we were on our balcony at VWL enjoying the evening and an adult beverage after putting kids to bed. Someone 2 floors above us must have had mud or something on their shoes and spent a good deal of time banging the shoes together to free the mud, sending brown pixie dust down the sides of our balcony. So, even though we couldn't see them, we knew they were there lol! Stuff happens all the time. It didn't ruin our trip by any stretch, but think the OP should be aware that people do things without being considerate of others even at DVC ;).
