Prius Owners- What do you like about your car?

That solar roof looks cool.

Now I want to buy one now, but I want to save for a bigger deposit.

When you say it is bad going up hills, does it just not have enough umph going up?

I am getting rid of my stick because I am sick of getting stuck in traffic on this one steep hill and burning my clutch out.

Did you have to order yours? How long did it take to get?

Maybe I will rent one if we go to Orlando in the fall.

I've driven all over the Appalachians from Southern Virginia to Southwestern Pennsylvania, into West Virginia and Maryland. I have never had a problem zooming up (& down....wheeeee!) those mountains.

But then again, sometimes I choose to not look at my mpg :rolleyes1 ... and like to whiz past the other cars that supposedly have more power.

Cindy B - Yeah, go to another dealer. Your salesperson doesn't know the car.

LoraJ - I know at least one of the car rental companies was touting their gas-sipping fleet a while back, even featured the Prius. Just now I can't remember which company it was, but yes, definitely DO reserve the car of you'd like to get a feel for how it handles/drives. You might even be able to rent it from your local airport agency for a weekend ::yes:: .

agnes!
PS - Darnit, wish that solar sun-roof pic hadn't been posted. Makes me want kind of want to get a new Prius.

I wish I never saw this thread. Now I want to buy one now. lol!!! I have spent all morning looking at priuschat.com.

Now my issue is we have Sirius paid for another year. It's frustrating that even after the merger you can't choose one or the other in the car. And if we went with XM we would have to pay $4 a month more for the stations we listen to most (Howard and Martha).

I searched around and Hertz rents out the hybrids. So I will definitely look into that.

The Prius website should answer your questions that the salesperson couldn't...
http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/ . There are lots of videos about the various models offered.

I found something interesting. Toyota no longer offers leather seats in the Prius, it's all eco-friendly plastics with an optional leather-trim for the seats & steering wheel. I must confess something...It doesn't quite go with the whole Prius ethos, but I do loooove the leather-seating in my '06 :cool2: .

I've been looking at priuschat.com all morning too. Did you see the Youtube videos posted on the 2010 Prius? I watched all of them.

I am concerned about the hills and "Uumph" as well. I'll be going from a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl to a 1.8 teensy engine. I know what Lora is saying about blowing out clutches-- been there done that! (though not in this car).

DH estimated it would take about $55 dollars in fuel to drive from NJ to Orlando in a Prius as compared to the almost $300 it takes now.

I like to say that I am paying at least 1/2 the price for a gallon of gas as most other drivers. Think about it this way - if another car gets 20 mpg and I get at least 40 or 45 (or even 50!) mpg...

Where are the videos? Or should I just go directly to youtube?

I am curious about that intelligent parking option and if I really want to get that fancy.

ETA:
Found a video. But I think it would make me nervous:

My friends traded theirs in for a Honda hybrid. They didn't feel comfortable with it on the highway.

So now I am obsessed with getting the Gen 3 Model III. Dh says to do some more research before we buy. So I will be researching a lot!

I have to take the car in for service on Weds. and I will try very hard not to look at the Prius while I am there. I'll be in Cleveland this weekend, so I was thinking about checking one out there because I know I cannot walk off the lot with one.

This is all your fault Cindy B. ;)

I've had an 09 for about a month and a half. The 2010 was just too expensive. All I can say is - 48 mpg -. I love the car and that you can see how your mileage is by the display. DH is not quiet as enthusiastic.

I really wanted the solar moon roof but you had to get a more expensive package with stuff I didn't need. It would have cost an extra $3600. Plus I got a better deal getting an 09 because they wanted them out of the way before the new ones came in.

I LOVE my 2008 Prius! I live in Colorado Springs and have no problems going up hills or mountains but you can hear the engine trying a little harder on those and your gas mileage goes down on the way up but on the way down it uses pretty much no gas.

Sorry... have fun in Cleveland. I miss living there.

We were interested in one a few years ago and actually rented one for a day. We live in a hilly area so we drove the wheels off of it that day. We didn't end up purchasing one because, at that time, Toyota had a 5000 surcharge on it. I refuse to pay 5000 above sticker for any car.
