Printer to Disney?

Does anyone have suggestions for photo printers? I've had my digital camera for almost a year, and (believe it or not) have not printed a picture yet!

Instead of going to the store with the memory card or CD to print a picture, I keep telling myself that I am going to buy a printer for home - (tomorrow, tomorrow...)

Was thinking a "bring with you" printer (no laptop) would be very cool.

Happen to see one online (at best buy) - It's an online deal. (not sure if it is portable though?) - Canon Selphy Compact Photo Printer and Ink/Paper Photo pack - $189 - $100 = $89, up to 4800x1200 dpi in color, pictbridge compatible etc etc.

Sure would like very nice pics for not a lot of money.

what do ya think?
thanks
mary

Its not the printer thats expensive it's the ink and paper that can be very expensive. Why not try an online service to print instead of bringing the cards to a store. I've use Clubphoto.com for 4yrs now and have never had any problems.

Ditto what DD said!!! I would be broke if I printed my own pics :teeth: .I use a local photo shop that I just upload my photos to and then go pick them up. But I am thinking about trying Snapfish.com, they are about half the price of who I use now.

How long does it take for them to ship your photos to you?

See, I knew you guys would be able to help me! I didn't even know about these online services!

As always - Thank you :disrocks:

Donald Duck with have to help you with that. With my local shop, I download them in the morning and pic them up in the afternoon. I am waiting until I get a bunch of pics before I try Snapfish. I'm also interested in how long it takes for an online service.

I would take a look at the Epson Picture Mate printers. I have taken mine on vacation. Cost is about 21 cents a print. They last longer than traditionally printed photos. I love mine.

So, no laptop needed? Do you think portable printers "travel well" on planes and in cars? Originally, I was thinking it would be a lot of fun to be able to print and hand out pictures to family "on the spot" I will check that out too. - thanks!

Mine sure has. My printer could get frequent flyer miles. No laptop needed. The top of the line one now lets you burn your images to a cd without a computer also.

I've used Mpix, Shutterfly and Kodakgallery for prints for quite a few years. It rarely takes more than 3 or 4 days for my prints to arrive, and as others have mentioned, it is generally more cost effective than doing your own printing. Shutterfly has print packages that can be a great deal, and both Shutterfly and Kodakgallery run frequent specials. Just do a google search for coupon codes. Once you've signed up with them, they'll e-mail plenty of discounts to you. I think Mpix has the best quality, but they are a little pricier (especially for 4x6's; their enlargements are pretty comparable to the other sites in terms of price, IIRC).

I have used several online services mentioned here, plus Walgreens. Pictures in a few days, Walgreens, pick them up in 30 minutes, no extra charge. Doing it yourself is slow, costly and consumes time.

I use Walgreen's as well. I used to print my own with a small portable photo printer, but they still don't look as good as what comes from Walgreens's (or other services) and it is very time consuming if you are doing a bunch. I upload and pick them up down the road. .19 per print - right now they are having a sale if you get 100 prints.... I forget what the cost per print is - 14 or 15 I think.

I use my photo printer if I have a party or something at DDs school and I want to give each child a photo to go with...

The photos that I print on my portable Epson look better than done from Wal Mart, etc. You just pop in the card and tell it what you want to print. Very quick and easy. I don't have to get in my car and waste my gas to pick up the prints.

I store all my photos online at fotki.com, I can order prints from them at 9 cents a piece for 4x6 they have the lowest price online....quality is good, for my professional stuff I order from mpix.com a little more expensive, but worth every cent, turnaround time for fotki is 3-6 days

with mpix I pay an extra 5 dollars and have my stuff overnighted.., can't beat a 24 hour turnaround time...

I always print out my own.. And i will also be investing in an epson pic mate.. I am too impatient to have to wait to have them printed for me.. i like the power to do it NOW! LOL

Just remember that no matter how you print your pics, always keep the files!

I have seen lots of people ask about portable printers with the idea that once they print their pics, they can then delete the files from their memory cards. But this is BAD! BAD! BAD!

Of course, I'm somewhat biased, since I am not a printer at all; I rarely print my pics except as part of some creative project or to hang on my wall. Mostly I just look at them with a slideshow-type screensaver.

For the few that I do print, I have an Epson C86. It's not the best photo printer on the market, not the cheapest per print, and not the fastest, but it's a good compromise, middle-of-the-road printer for folks who mostly print text and simple graphics like web pages with an ocasional side-trip to photo printing.

When I get 4x6 prints, I almost always order them online. Even owning a printer already, it's cheaper buying them rather than printing them.

Almost all of my photo viewing and sharing is online. The only time I print pictures is when I want to hang them on the wall, send them to my few remaining non-computer using relatives (all on my wife's side of the family), or for random little things (kid's need something for school, someone needs a shot for a scrapbook, etc.).

I started a project last year to hang a picture frame with a LCD monitor and a hidden computer over the fireplace. I still love the idea, but the 19" monitor just looked to small up there. I'm waiting until 32" monitor prices come down a bit more.

The idea is that it will shot a slideshow of pictures read wirelessly off of the server. I'll have the ability to customize the slideshow for different seasons, guests, etc. So like now, when we are a few weeks away from a WDW trip, I'd move the WDW pictures into heavy rotation. When we get back, the new pictures would be in heavy rotation.

I also like the idea of adding occasional snipets of HD video. I'd love to set up static looking shots with people that move a bit, kind of like "Harry Potter" style pictures. I'll also mix in some useful info like the weather, stock prices, upcoming events from our calendars, etc.

OK, I guess i've wondered way off topic and geeked out a bit. I'll be quiet now.
