Princess Weekend 2023 (Feb 23-26, 2023)

Odd question, but does anyone have experience using the pressed penny machines during a race? I also run past them and regret not bringing money. As long as I have enough buffer from the ballon ladies, I should be fine
If you’ve got the time, do it.
That’s my 2-cents worth….
:-)
(Where are the penny machines?)

What I do is use the lap average pace on my watch, so it "resets" after each mile (or when I "lap" it manually.)

Thank you. Great, detailed, answer and I appreciate it. I'll have to look for that metric.

Doing math after about 5 miles is...not something I'm good at.

I'm not great a math. I use a lot of rounding to approximate things when running, because I'm just there to have fun and finish, not run for a certain time (yet.)

My runDisney math amounts to estimating if I have enough time to see a character or take a walk break without getting swept. That's my "time goal" 😂

Ho hum. Anyone else tracking awful winter storms due to hit this week? I am in the Twin Cities and the reports are not looking good. Reports are currently ranging from 8"-22" of snow between Tuesday and Thursday night, it's a little early for anything definitive but I'm seeing lots of rumblings that it could be one of the worst winter storms in a long time. I skirted past the awful weather we got prior to Marathon Weekend since I flew out a week early (took a friend three different airlines to make it in time), but for Princess I am flying out early Thursday morning for the 10k only. I'm not too concerned about getting there for the race but am expecting to be delayed for most of Thursday if not until Friday. Just a big bummer since we are splurging on renting a night at Poly and will likely miss all our resort time if not the entire booking. I did book through David's using a Chase card with insurance so worst case hoping that would qualify for reimbursement. It's such a short trip though, losing a day or two would really stink.

I am watching closely too. I am in WI. I am flying early Thursday morning. I am signed up for all three races.

Oh yikes, I hope it is not as bad in WI as they are showing for the Twin Cities. I hope you can get out some time Thursday. I'm sure there will be bib pickup before the races. The small bright side is if in the worst case you miss the 5k, the challenge is not at risk. But I hope it all works out for you for all three races!

Will my wife be allowed to drive the car to Epcot to see me at the finish or does she need to take Disney transportation?

Luckily, I’m flying out of MSP on Tuesday morning, so I’m not worried about leaving. I think MSP has a pretty good handle on the snow situation and it doesn’t seem like this storm is going to have ice issues.
If it were just me going I would 100% switch my flight to Tuesday, sadly my friend cannot miss work. I am glad it is colder so hopefully the snow will be drier and lighter. I think my biggest issue could be getting to the airport itself. I drive a small car and live at the bottom of a hill, that we watch many people get stuck on all winter. I would normally just drive to the airport early and stay at a hotel but Wednesday night looks equally awful

The challenge may not be at risk but my perfect season will be.

I’m in Denver and it’s supposed to snow Wednesday, and I’m flying out that day. Right now they’re measuring 3-5” where I live and 1-3” near the airport. I book early flights for this reason and think it’ll be ok. My cousin flies out after work Wednesday and I hope these totals hold so she can fly out on time.

Which race? What is your realistic estimated pace/finish time? Where are you coming from?

You *can* drive to the park to watch the finish, BUT road closures can make things difficult from a timing perspective depending on the race and your speed.

Half on Sunday. Estimate finishing in 2:30. Coming from Ft Wilderness

Half on Sunday. Estimate finishing in 2:30. Coming from Ft Wilderness
So let’s assume you start at around 5:30. That would give you an 8am finish. Due to road closures, the busses to/from the resorts don’t start running again until 7:30. And it’s a bit of a walk from the parking lot, through security, and all the way over to the finish.

This is straight out of the event guide:
“Guests who want to drive a personal vehicle will need to park in the EPCOT Parking Lot. Complimentary parking will be available to runDisney guests prior to 6:00am. Athletes and spectators should plan on arriving at EPCOT by 4:00am for all races. Please know EPCOT Toll Plaza via World Drive North is open all race days, but on Sunday (02/26) the EPCOT Parking Lot Exits will be closed from 4:00am-6:30am due to Race Course related road closures. Traffic will not be able to exit EPCOT during this time until roadways have reopened. Please plan all race day transportation ahead of time.”

World drive outside wilderness lodge will definitely be closed, but maybe there’s a back way out of ft wilderness. Road closure map from the event guide here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...ll=28.401965014998552,-81.57672409811721&z=16

I'm there this year to not get swept again LOL. For a year I've been mystified by HOW it happened since I was watching my watch. But just this last week I've learned a lot.
