Princess Storybook Dining - Restaurant Akershus

I'm loving all these positive reviews of Akershus. It is the only meal we have planned that I'm a little nervous about. DS is excited about the venison stew even to the point of not minding the princesses (much) and DD loves the Princesses, so we'd probably go ahead and try it regardless of the reviews, but it is nice to hear good things about it.

We dined at Akershus (for the first time) on 4/29...dinner. I wanted our boys (all 4 - ) to see some Princesses and they actually seemed to enjoy themselves at dinner. I had the Cod, thought it was good; husband had the pasta Akershus with grilled chicken, not much else appealed to him on the menu. Boys ate the pasta/meatballs and pizza. They were glad to have a break from mac and cheese... (we were on the DDP). Desserts were very good Princesses: Aurora was the greeter; and our table was visited by Snow White, Ariel in her gown!, Belle in her blue/white dress, and Cinderella herself! I felt like we hit the jackpot seeing both Ariel and Cinderella; only disappointment was that I'd like to have seen Belle in her yellow gown....the other ladies were all decked out and Belle had to wear her blue and white dress to dinner?! I would go back but probably try their breakfast next time perhaps. They do say that the princesses rotate and none are guaranteed at any meal (but you will see 5 of them). I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience, especially if you have little princesses in your family. My boys survived and, actually, they didn't complain once! Have fun

I just got off the phone making lunch ressies for Sept. Then after hanging up I began second guessing my decision. Having read all your posts I feel better about it. I have a very picky 10 year old, who will probably order off the kids menu even though he is on the "adult" dining plan (thank goodness it free).

My dd4 likes Sleeping Beauty/Aurora.....I think because she is in a pink dress. She really could care less about any princesses, has never watched any of the movies. She wants Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and so on. We do have Chef Mickey and the AK Donald one scheduled.

We went there for dinner last August it rivals CRT for setting aand atmosphere. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the staff is fantastic, and the princess interaction was beyond great. The only downfall for us was the food. We usually love to try new things but just couldn't get into the Norweigan food. It's too bad they didn't offer just one non-Norway dish b/c the rest of the experience really was fabulous.

I am interested in this as well. Has anyone ordered from a kids menu and was able to get an "adult" size portion? I know of course it will still be an adult credit used. (As it should be)

This dinner was one of our favorites last December! We had a group of 13 people. The moms and daughters sat at one table while the men and son's sat at another. All the kids were 5-6 y/o. Everyone loved it! One of my favorite pictures is of my son and one of the other boys grinning ear to ear after their fathers prompted them to pose with Jasmine.... with her beautiful midrift showing!! The father's, who didn't expect to enjoy that dinner, kept thanking us for taking them there! Our waitress was a blonde bombshell from Sweden... I took the girls' picture with her as well, since she was a princess herself!

The food was great, too. We also had that traditional meatball. The kids had regular kid fare. We all found things we liked on the cold buffet. The breads were tasty!!

Gee, now I wish we were going back this trip!!

DH had the traditional "whatever it's called" and loved it.

Trust me, you don't want to know how kjottkaker is pronounced. It sounds a lot like a Southern slang term for "Redneck," and I'll leave it at that. However, I've had kjottkaker twice now, and it tasts much better than it sounds!

Akerhaus is one of our favorite character meals. It's the first one we've done three times, and will surely be the first we do four times. We were there a couple of weeks ago. Sleeping Beauty was the photo-op princess and at dinner we had Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Belle, and Cinderella. The lineup changes often, of course, but that was a great one.

No matter who you have, the princesses will spend a lot of time and effort making sure your kids enjoy the event. They are very gracious.

We have ADRs for lunch here in September. I was also worried about the menu. My kids are not picky but some of the descriptions don't sound very appealing. Glad to know both the food and interaction are good!

I have PSB reserved for lunch one day at 11:20AM, but wanted to move it up to Monday and the have a 2:30PM and I wasn't sure if we would get less attention at that time or not.

We enjoyed our meal. It wasn't the best of our stay, but it was pretty good. We had the best waiter that we have ever had anywhere, Ole. It was one of our best experiences our last trip. We are looking forward to going again!

Ole was our waiter too! Yes, I agree, he was great -- we asked him what was best to check out in World Showcase, and he said Maelstrom, of course, but it was being renovated He also recommended the movies in China (which we sadly missed) and France, but not in Canada, which is outdated and you have to stand Thanks for the warning, Ole...

I heard (and don't know if this is true) that Belle's gold ball gown has such a large, full, skirt that it's hard for her to maneuver around tables without knocking things over, so that's why she appears in the blue and white dress when she is circulating in the restaurant. Belle was the greeter when we were there, and she was in an alcove in the lobby area, so her gold gown was no problem. We also saw Snow White (what a sweetie, she was my favorite), Jasmine, Mulan, and Aurora. All of the princesses were delightful and charming, and it was a wonderful meal.

We went for breakfast, and it was delicious. We didn't go for lunch or dinner because we don't eat seafood and there is a lot of it on the menu, as well as traditional Norwegian ingredients like beets, cauliflower, horseradish, lamb, and some other things that really aren't our favorites. But my sister and her husband had the lunch and loved it -- and my sis is a pretty picky eater. She said even if you didn't care for the entrees there was so much on the cold board that you certainly wouldn't go hungry.

Do you think the breakfast is worth the money (or TS credit)? We are four adults and our friends want to go there (in the hopes of seeing Snow White) for breakfast. I was going to pass, but don't want to be a party pooper...just didn't know if scrambled eggs are worth $20! Would you 'spend' a table service credit, or should I just pay out of pocket?

At a character breakfast, you are really paying for the "experience" more than the food. But even the non-character buffet at Boma is 16.99. I'm sure the food is more impressive at Boma (I know dinner there was amazing), but it's still breakfast. We actually ended up paying for breakfast at 'Ohana OOP because it was a better use of the TS credit for PSB since it would have been a few dollars more OOP.

The food at both PSB and 'Ohana for breakfast was wonderful and plentiful -- we had scheduled them both very early to avoid cutting in to park time, but now I wish we'd scheduled them for the latest breakfast seating, so they would be more like brunch and we'd just have one more meal that day, an early CS dinner. That's what we do at Goofy's Kitchen at DL. It wasn't just scrambled eggs, but also bacon, sausage, waffles, sweet rolls, fresh fruit, juice, coffee -- PSB had a small buffet with some Norwegian foods and cold cut kinds of stuff, and 'Ohana served delicious pineapple bread. If you like breakfast foods, the menu was great. But even if they served PB&J, the character interaction was wonderful. If a TS credit averages about $25 (which Akershus certainly does after tax and tip), then you are at least at a break even point. CRT is really a bad deal for 2 TS -- 31.99 OOP, which before tax and tip, means each TS credit is worth only about $16. Much better to pay for it OOP than spend 2 TS credits. Even lunch there at 33.99 is not a good deal, only worth $17 per credit, or dinner 39.99 is only worth $20 per credit.

Thanks for your information. My favorite character meal is Crystal Palace (well, Tigger is there afterall) and I love the buffett choices. I was just a little, ummm, dissapointed (?) with the family style scrambled eggs kind of breakfast. Although, my friend says their potato cassarole dish is REALLY tasty! I don't know why I'm concerned....I love being with them and I do have something I'd like to discuss with Aurora, if she's there

Check out allears.net for the full menu. DD5 had pizza that looked yummy. I know at lunch you can get cheese soup and a sandwich if that counts as normal
