PRINCESS Palooza 2011! 9/9 Update: Departure Day

Just popping in to say that I was just reading your older trip report and I'm totally jealous of all the beautiful costumes! I would have DIED to do some of the stuff you did on my first visit- I was 9 then so I suppose I would have been a little too old.

Thanks Emma!

Most girls are done with the princessy stuff by 9 any more. I think a lot of it has to do with judgmental attitudes from others that age. Heck, by 6 or 7 many are done any more. I'm glad Katie has continued to get some enjoyment from it. Not that she'd wear anything princessy at home, but she still enjoys the interaction with the characters in the parks enough to do it a little.

And if you want your own costume fun, you should consider a trip to the Haloween party!

Thanks Glennie. And thanks to your daughter too! Just tell her this wasn't the same parade. This was the Sunday night one. We saw you Tuesday. Or did you go to both?

Yes we went to the parties on Sunday night and Tuesday night. We only went to the parade on Sunday night because we were character hunting at the party on Tuesday. Did you do 3 parties?

We did. But we didn't stay until close any night. I did that for lots of reasons, partly becuase my husband has no patience for character hunting, and partly because I knew I wouldn't get to see fireworks any other nights. And partly so we didn't feel the need to stay til close on those nights.

Where did you watch the parade Sunday night?

I've fallen behind the last couple of weeks but just caught up. Love all your pics, but the castle shots during MM&Y (even sans tripod) are fantastic as are the ones with your daughter in Cindy's dress and the characters.

What do you do with her dress when she changes out? You must get a locker or something?

Thanks! I just felt let down because after all the worry about the tripod earlier in the day I didn't even get to use it. I blame the weather gods!

When I'm taking a costume along to the park, I fold it and put it a space bag inside the bag I'm bringing. Sometimes I stow that in a locker, sometimes I don't. The down side is that sometimes they get a bit wrinkled, but it's a tradeoff for being easy to carry. The hoop skirt really isn't hard to carry either. It coils down on itself pretty small. It's not fluffy or bulky.

I'm going to try and get another update done in the next few days but make no promises. It's one of those weeks full of dental appts, doctors appts, choir concerts and tennis matches. Oh, and tomorrow night we're seeing Disney on ice. So that will be a fun dose of Disney in between trips.

Perhaps we will be sitting next to each other!!

That would be awesome! :thumbsup2

Many thanks Carey! I wasn't worried. I knew you'd eventually catch back up with us. I'm SO glad you get to experience MVMCP for yourself. You're gonna love it. There's not quite as much to do as MNSSHP, but honestly, it's just such a magical atmosphere.....

Now you two cut it out! You're gonna make me switch to November! Well, November is actually under consideration, but probably not early enough to catch both of you.

December works LOADS better for me. But the appeal of maybe catching a less crowded party could sway me.

Come on Janet! It would be loads of fun!

I'm actually glad there isn't as much to do as MNSSHP, I felt like we barely touched the surface then! I want to see the snow, the Castle lights and just soak it all in!

Well I sure hope you all stay well on your next trip. Do you have anything in the works?

I'm SO glad your DD hung in there and found her Drizella! We thought about you when we saw her this last time. She must love her job. She's been there a long time. Good thing animated characters never age!

We'll find your Drizella shortly. My next day is Epcot, and it was a short-ish day, and it rained all morning, so not QUITE as many pictures. :rotfl:

We got to see her twice. She was at 1900 Park Fare on our night (total fluke). And then, we went by on DD's birthday to see her. She rocks. She is the original from the first day over five years ago. Amazing. I'm always afraid she's going to tire of it though.

Our plans are to go back for Star Wars weekends 2013. I really wanted to run the half-marathon next January, but I'm going to put it back a year so I can save up for annual passes instead. Then, my kids can go for Star Wars weekends AND I can run the half in 2014.

I can't wait to read more reports from you!

Still reading along, just not much time.

We caught the castle show this year and loved it! Of course my pictures are crap, but at least we saw it.

Sorry about the rain on BTMR. I can't even imagine being stuck on a ride in a downpour. I would have wanted dry clothes too.

Still loving your pictures!

Mike I missed this part of your comment earlier. I think the girl elves are pretty cool too. Also the other girl dancers in red and green. I just love it all. I even love the music that some find annoying. It just ALL makes for a great atmosphere. I'm not surprised your wife cried at the DL parade. I'd love to see that one some day. Can you tell if it's vastly different from this one?
Looks very close. I know they have different fireworks music though and then when the snow falls Katharine McPhee sings White Christmas. Someday I would love to see the Christmas processional at Disneyland too. The overlays of IASM and Haunted Mansion's NBC are simply amazing.

When you went to DL did you get to see Remember Dreams Come True fireworks? It's my absolute favorite of all time.

Loving the report!

Sorry for three posts in a row! One more question for the expert. Janet for the parades in the night would you suggest I use my 50 1.8 over my kit lens?

Catching up (again) I blame college for me always falling behind in the trip reports.

Wow Katie's Cinderella dress is fab and I love the shawl that went over it as well. That Snow White you got at the castle had some seriously dodgy make-up on there!

I love your pics from Magic Memories and you. I didn't get any great pics of that. We were to far back and my little camera isn't that great in the dark :(

Your parade pics are amazing as well love them. Snow White's skirt is so sparkly I want it :rotfl: I also never noticed until I saw your pics all the dancing reindeer have names on their bows how cool :)

Sorry I've gotten behind. The last week has been nuts again. We did Disney on ice last week and Katie had her first choir concert. And yesterday Timmy had his first ever tennis match. He seems to really be enjoying himself. They lost in doubles but he did win his singles match. I took some photos, but won't get them edited for a bit. I think photographing tennis is going to be TONS more interesting that shooting track or cross country. I mean, let's face it. I've taken hundreds of the SAME SHOT over the last couple years. Shooting through the fence is going to add a new wrinkle, but still, the variety of shots will make it worthwhile.

Timmy has another match today, then again on Thursday. I've forgotten how fun all this spring running is!

That would be awesome! :thumbsup2

Man, I KNOW it would be fun. But I've heard the week before Thanksgiving is one of the slowest of the year. We actually did tht week in 02 and loved it. And I want to miss Jersey week. Not that any of it matters. We'll probably end up there in December.

I doubt I'll fully commit on anything until I'm more confident about the new Fantasyland opening. I REALLY want to eat at the new Be Our Guest Restaurant........ I bet they have $60 chicken nuggets there too!

How AWESOME that your Drizella was at 1900PF for you! She wasn't there for us, but the one we had was incredible too. We had LOADS of fun. I can't wait to get to those pictures for the trip report! :cool1:

Belive it or not, I'd LOVE to go to SWW. The boys wouldn't go... you know.... being Disney haters now and all..... :cool2: but they were HUGE Star Wars fan.... back in the day......I'd just love to see some marching Stormtroopers though. But alas....... I can't get over the heat issue. I'm just completely heat intolerent.

Still reading along, just not much time.

Thanks Vanessa! That ride was a MESS. It's hard to explain how disorienting it was. Walk in, not one drop of rain. Walk through a completely EMPTY queue, exit ride in monsoon DOWNPOUR.... at a high rate of speed. Of course, I should have been prepared since it rained earlier. But it was dark out so I wasn't really aware of the weather once it stopped raining earlier. I couldn't see the clouds or anything.

Loving the report!

I would LOVE  to see the DL version. And hearing Katharine McPee singing White Christmas would be an awesome addition.

I don't remember which fireworks we saw. Dumbo circled the castle though. Now THAT was a sight to behold. Too bad I blew the shot! :rotfl:

Sorry for three posts in a row! One more question for the expert. Janet for the parades in the night would you suggest I use my 50 1.8 over my kit lens?

I would always use a fast lens over a kit lens for a night parade. I'm not a huge fan of the 50mm length, but if you're in a spot you can catch the parade coming down the street toward you (instead of straight on from the side) you'll be fine. And if you shoot on a high resolution setting, you'll be able to crop in for some close-ups.

Great… so now you are considering Nov and I'm NOT going at that time. Geez!!!! :guilty:

I'm so glad you're at least formulating a back-up plan! I hope you work it out.

Catching up (again) I blame college for me always falling behind in the trip reports.

Thanks Petals! College is definitely an acceptable reason to fall behind. I'm afraid I'm way behind on everyone else's trip reports, so I'm not about to complain!

I also love the name tags on the reindeer. I think it was Prancer who came by to high five us.

And yes, I love  Snow White's sparkly skirt too. I've always wanted to do a similar version.

what day were you at disney on ice? we went on sunday. it was pretty fun!

We always do opening night for the $10 tickets, so we were there Wednesday. I got my camera through security but the battery died literally 5 minutes into it. What a rookie mistake! :rotfl: My friend said "that's so unlike you"...... Yep. Won't make that mistake again. But I'm meeting myself coming and going right now. Just too many things going on.

I did enjoy the show though. It was a nice mix of story lines and had some beautiful costumes as always.

MONDAY 12/12:

I always choose Epcot for our park the day after a late party. As long as we get fastpasses for Soarin', I'm happy. And this time of year, as long as you're there by noon, you're good. I still give Epcot the short end of the stick on every trip. One day, we'll give it its due. But that was not to be on this trip. It's a gem we'll just leave mostly unexplored until Katie is a little older. I'm sure I'll enjoy Illuminations...... once I finally see it.

Try as I might, I just could not sleep late, even after a late party night. I woke up before 8 and went out around the POP for some daylight photos of some of the icons. Since we didn't get phone reception in the room, it was also a good time to call and chat with Kim. It was nice to be out exploring the resort while chatting with my friend, especially since she'd be joining us in a few short days!

HEY! Where are the Potato Head Butts?? :rotfl2: Mind you, Kadence asked that!

Thanks for the tour and beautiful pictures, it makes us miss POP. We really did enjoy our stay there. I'd stay there again for sure.

I hear you on early wake up even though you had a late night. Why can't I ever sleep past 6 am!:sad2:

Can't wait to see some tennis pictures! Lots more action than running huh?

You missed my building with the 8 track!!! ;)

I'm gonna miss Pop this time! Its the only On-Site resort I've stayed at and I really do love it!
