It looks from the menu that the children's menu is pretty basic. I'm more concerned with the adult menu. I went back when it was a buffet and I really liked it, but now that it's served family-style I want to make sure my teenagers and boyfriend will eat it. Picky eaters...

Thanks!

We went for dinner the first year and found the food to be on the "strange" side. Even my princess: princess: weren't impressed. Since dinner and lunch seem to be the same more exotic fare, we tried breakfast the next year and were much happier. My girls are still young enough for the draw to be the princesses so we will be having breakfast there again this year (well that is unless they actually do change it to 2 TS per person, then we will rethink the idea  )

I understand your hesitation...

I've never eaten there, but I agree that it looks strange.

Have you found the "food porn" thread for pics of the food?

I would recommend going there so you can see it....

Be adventurous and try it.

I agree 100%.

Children only consider food "strange" when their parents from a young age have taught them to do so. If from day one, a child watches mom and dad try new things with an open mind, the child will do the same.

:goodvibes We had lunch @ Akershus in October and we enjoyed it! The all you can eat salad bar has the "usual" suspects (lettuce, cold cuts, cheese, fruit) plus a few Norwegian themed items (think smoked salmon, pickled beets, etc). There's something for everyone.

The main course you pick off the menu and it's brought to your table.

Check out the menu on allears--I had the huge meatball thingie (kottj......something or other) and it was good.

The princesses' interaction was excellent, too.princess: We'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Perhaps I would use the words "different from I'm used to". And ask is there anything on the menu for picky eaters? I don't think that we have any reason to call any foods we aren't familiar with "strange". It simply represents another country.

The meal consisted of a small buffet area and an entree ordered. I preferred the buffet portion more so that the main entree, but my DH tried the meatballs and said it was similar to his grandmothers (she was from Norway); he really liked it. I would like to go back and try something else. My DS liked his selection from the children's menu, but he was trying to make sure none of the princesses talked to him!

Oh how desperately I wish that were true! If I've learned anything from having three kids, it's that each one will be a unique individual, with his/her own tastes and predilections. We can model all we want, and I'm sure it HELPS, but the fact is that these little people come pre-hardwired, and there's not a whole lot we can do about it.

We went there on our last trip and had dinner. We were prepared to try new things. Some were good, others not so much. But we really loved the appetizers. My son (8) and daughter (3) loved the smoked salmon and shrimp and salads. These are staples in our household so it was nice to see something famililar. I didn't mind the desserts but the rest of the family didn't care for them. I think they were too full from eating all the appetizers.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone by using the word "strange". You're right. I should have used "different". And I totally agree OurMsBrooks, my kids were wonderful eaters who would try literally everything. Now, my 16 yr. old has decided that she's a "vegetarian -- well, except for burgers and bacon!" :confused3 Uh...yeah. So, as much as I don't try to cater to this silliness, practicality prevails where I don't want to spend a bunch of money for a meal that will go uneaten and I'll hear "I'm hungry!" 2 hours later! We're still deciding, but I can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing other people's points of view. :thumbsup2
