How is this possible? I saw 2 boys today wearing princess hats. I would like to have a smee hat but it's designated for boys, how come princess hats aren't for girls only?

Well certain hats are designed for boys, certain ones for girls. Lots of guys wear the purple princess hat.

Hey, if you want to play the "gender only" card...

There are plenty of outfits (the Princess dresses, namely) that remain Girl-only without a Male-equivalent. There are no Prince suits, no white Princely garb.

There are no outfits, save that blasted Baseball outfit that no one likes, that are male-only. But even then, you girls got the cheerleader equivalent (didn't have to be fair, just equal).

As for the Smee outfit, you girls got Alice. Trust me, you don't want to play the "Girls don't have enough girl-only outfits" card with me.

...save that blasted Baseball outfit that no one likes...

Speak for yourself, Pirate! :rotfl2: The baseball lover in me wanted to cry when I saw that.

Seriously though, it's a shame all hats are not for both boys and girls (with the exception of the tiara and the crown; they're different but serve the same purpose). The boys need prince costumes to go with the princess dresses, I agree. Hopefully another pirate costume will be released soon though, because a lot of gals love pirates, and most aren't as fortunate as I was to win a Sparrow costume from entering codes.

ETA: I would also like to echo what Lady said in that Karen was simply asking a question as a relatively new player. Heck, when I was new I was really confused too that boys could wear Princess hats.

Hey lets play nice :) She is new and asking a question and deserves an nice answer.
To answer your question:
I recall when the princess hat first game out, for some reason they released it earlier than planned and when they realized their error removed the hat a few hours later. It was discovered that boys could buy the hat, a bug? Not sure but when they released the hat a bit later the boys could still buy it. Many of us here on the board suspected that is was intended for girls only but there obviously was a mistake with the release as they removed it only hours later but then decided to keep it for boys and girls since many had already purchased it. Though we do not know for sure why it came about that way it did and I know many guys that own the hat and wear it proud :)
Hope this clears it up for you.
I do agree that there should be more boy only outfits. I would love to see a prince outfit!

a little known fact. it is not really a princess hat. It was mislabeled . In reality it is a gnome hat. that is why boys can wear it

I personally think that it is because some boys collect mickey hats (I do, and I believe others, including boys, do, too :) ). But that's just my opinion. I think the gnome idea was really creative for an idea :).

It was first thought to be released for both boys and girls to be able to buy it by mistake. But the only people that could answer that would be the VMK Team that handles that. Maybe they will share sometime.. :confused3

The only reasoning I think that it was always intended for boys and girls to be able to have is that I remember yavn wearing it the first time it was shown. :rotfl:

Which would explain the Red Tron outfit. ;)

Well I am very thankful guys can wear the princess hat (cough) prince hats.

For with out them there would be no gnome and gnome in training. And just seeing them in those tight green super hero suits and the pretty pink gnome hats always brings a chuckle to me :)

I mean no offense by saying this, but whenever a girl says "We need more gender-specific costumes" I freak out. Once boys can wear the dresses, I will let you guys complain in peace :rotfl:

Boys in Princess Hats are Lava

princess:

So, so, so many choices for a reply here, Fox..... I will just go with - uh, ok. Fighting EVERY urge to walk through that door!

(See, Speed, sometimes I can walk from that door! :rotfl: Okay, rarely, but still....)
