Princess Dilema

Thanks everyone for your advice! I will bring a princess costume just in case & all her princess t's. I just can't imagine myself wanting to walk around in that scratchy costume material in that humidity~UGH! I'm going to see to if I can find a pretty princess sundress too. GREAT IDEAS everyone!

This is her first trip & we are doing the princess dinner at the castle! I can't wait to see her face when she sees the castle in real life. She gets excited when she sees it on TV.

I am not sure you are aware that the princesses are not at dinner at the Castle. At dinner it is the Fairy godmother and the mice.

If you don't want to carry clothes around all day, you could rent a locker. My daughters loved dressing up to meet the princesses, but I would definitely have a change of clothes for all the reasons mentioned. Little girls always get lots of attention from cast members, but when my daughters dressed up, cast members made a point of addressing them as "princess". In my opinion, the hairstyle that BBB creates isn't all that pretty. They tend to put part or all of the hair into a ballet bun with gobs of gel and glitter. Last year, my 9 year old wanted to see Snow White (her fav). We found out when and where she'd be available from cast members. Right before the meet and greet we slipped on the costume and she went to meet her princess. Following the meet and greet, we ran in to Jiminy Cricket and he asked for my DD9's autograph! She got such a kick out of signing "Snow White" for him.:yay:

Right. Cinderella is there, but she is the only princess, and she stays at her throne in the lobby. :goodvibes

I thought there would be more princesses at the dinner. At least Cindy is there (her favorite). Should we get there early before our reservations for a meet & greet? How does that work?

BTW... I'm going to have her stroller so I can pack her diaper bag & whatever extra clothes I need to carry in the underbasket of the stroller. I did find a cute little princess dress at TJ Maxx today. If she doesn't wear it... no biggee, it was only $8. And I found a crown at Target for $4. She probably won't wear the crown though.

If she likes dressing up, then I think that she will enjoy being in a princess costume. When our girls did it, they were constantly complimented, called "princess" and "my lady," and given lots of attention. It was very hot, but they didn't seem to mind. Bringing a change of clothes is always a great idea. If she is uncomfortable, hot, dirty or wants to get wet, then you will be prepared :goodvibes!

That is sooo sweet!!!!

I'm thinking the same for my two but we are going in Dec. so too hot but they aren't much for wearing the dresses. Even the cheap ones from Walmart they don't play with so I could not imagine paying an arm and a leg for the BBB. My DD wants to wear a pretty dress she says so I'm going to buy the nightgowns for the Disney store that look like a princess dress. they are satin and quite cute. Then I know that it will get lots of use out of them. Have Fun!

We had breakfast at Aukerhus this past week. It was an early reservation so we allowed her wear the dress to the breakfast, it wasn't too hot yet. But as soon as breakfast was over we took it off. It is waaaay too hot to wear that dress all day. I saw lots of kids wearning them all day. It just isn't healthy. Bring a zip loc bag to put the dress in, it keeps it neat and compact.

As far as BBB don't waste your money. It is very overpriced. Think about it, you are paying $50 for a small crown, glitter, and some one to put your daughter's hair in a bun. I am not a stylist and I would do it myself (DD doesn't have enough hair for a bun). The only cute kids were the ones with the bun, the hair extentions just looked like trash. No way I would let my kid walk around like that.

We always check in for our reservations 10 minutes early or so. You will be put in line to wait for your meet & greet with Cinderella as you are called for your reservation. They will check you in, put you in line and after your pictures and meeting you will be shown to your table.

DD5 had more fun in her princess dresses than I imagined she would. She was so proud of all the attention and she believed everyone really did think she was a princess (she was 4 when we went). She wore a different dress each day and wore the dresses most of the day. If your daughter is hot or uncomfortable she will let you know. As long as you have the change of clothes in the stroller you will be ready when she is. Enjoy your trip and allow your princess to have the most magical time of her life! There is nothing more enjoyable than that 1st trip and watchin your little ones excitement.

I dressed my daughter for the Princess Storybook and was glad I did. I bought the costume at the Disney store after Halloween and paid next to nothing (I also saw the costumes at Marshalls and TJMaxx for $15 or $20 before Halloween). They were selling costumes outside of the Norway pavillion for over $65.

I am not a stylist (nor play one on TV!!) and put a ponytail in my daughters hair, twisted it around and around and around the ponytail holder part and Ta-da..a nice bun..for free! I saw 2 or 3 BBB hairdos that day, out of a hundred girls!

I did bring a change of clothes and threw the costume into a bag when we were done. My intention at the time was to just throw it away after using it (I only paid $12 for costume and shoes!!), but it wasnt the hassle I thought it would be carrying it around.

For 1900 PF, I had a Cinderella costume. My daughter was a bit tired and a little cranky that morning and didnt want to wear the costume. We didnt feel one bit out of place. I didnt even notice what anyone else was or was not wearing.

The only reason I was glad about the costume at Princess Story book was because when you walk in, you get a free 8 x 10 picture with a princess. It just made the pic look a little more special.

That's a good point!

What is the Princess Storybook? Is that a different dinner or lunch? Or is it a story hour somewhere in the park?

I'm kind of disappointed that the Royal Table dinner does not include Princesses. Now I'm wishing I would have booked breakfast or lunch. It would have cost me less money too. Live & learn I guess.

I believe they are referring to the "Princess Storybook Breakfast, lunch or dinner". It's the name of the meal at Akershus in Norway.

Everyone has an opinion on this. And yes, I'd rather see the princesses than not. But dining IN the castle is still magical, extra princesses or not. My choices would be 1) Breakfast or lunch CRT 2) Breakfast lunch or dinner at Akershus then 3) dinner in the castle.

We have done it both ways.... DDs did the BBB 1 year and LOVED IT! We did the whole works...last year I took the stuff along and did it myself. Had just as much fun and compliments as the previous. I agree, take on outfit to change into after. DD10 chose to wear a cute sundress w/her tiara and such..DD7 wanted her outfit on ALL the time. I was, at first, disappointed when DD7 chose the Tinkerbelle outfit... but as my DD informed me... Tink is a Fairy "princess'.... so we allowed he to chose that. It was adorable and cool! The outfit was short and DD did not feel uncomfortable at all.

At her age (2) I would just do it myself... and take a cute sundress along to change into.

Don't be disappointed .... CRT is a great experience. We have done AKershus, CRT and 1900 and the girls loved each one for what it was.

Eating in the castle is a thrill in itself. (at least to our DDs) DD ALWAYS talks about the 'Wishing' part of the meal. We have the greatest pic of her with her eyes closed 'wishing' as the lights twinkle. She has her 'wand' and looks so happy. The atmosphere is GREAT!

1900 was great for the characters....DS 19 and 17 (family agreed this was a family vacation and did all the meals together...everyone got to chose 1-2...this was 1 of their little sisiters choice) even had a good time. The step sisters were so funny. They kept flirting with the boys... and telling them to not look at Cinderella but at them. Stepmother was hilarious! DDs actually had more fun watching how the boys posed for pics with the characters.
AKershus.... was nice with the picture taken w/Belle. Meet LOTS of princesses...

Each has its 'special' points. You will have a great time.

My girls were 3 and 5 last trip. We couldn't get them out of their princess dresses. They wanted to wear them to the parks everyday. I think part of it was the attention they got from everyone when they were wearing them.

This was how my DD4 was in March. It was very hot the week we were there and she thought the dress was itchy but it was all she wanted to wear. We did 3 princess meals that week and she wore her dress for all of them. We took along a change of clothes in case she wanted out of the dress but she didn't. She loved being addressed as princess by all the CM's.

BBB is a memory for a lifetime!

Dress her up and once the meal is over change her into regular clothes. A lot of girls are all decked out for these meals but you don't have to, since you are a stylist and can do her hair I would not bother with the BBB. In the gift shops you can buy the hair acessories they use.

voice of reason. great compromise.

We have done both breakfast and dinner in the castle, and actually found dinner to be a more "magical" experience! There aren't as many princesses, but they do a really neat show while you are eating, and being in the castle at night feels very special. There are other places in the park to meet the rest of the princesses, being in the castle is the cool part of CRT.

I would definitely take a princess dress - my DD wears one almost all the time at WDW, even when it's hot. Nothing compares to the attention they get when they are dressed up. She is also a huge fan of BBB, but you do have to be 3, and usually get an appointement several months in advance. But you can buy all the same accessories in the store and make her beautiful yourself! You will have a magical time, I know!!!
