Princess Diana's engagement ring

Kate Middleton likes to keep a very low profile. Sometimes, she purposely sits or walks apart from William when she can, so there won't be pictures snapped of the two of them together in public.

On the one hand, this has been very healthy for her, but like with Diana, all that will be expected to change, as she WILL be pushed up front and center and expected to take it. That dramatic change in the FIRM'S expectation of her could be her & William's undoing. :(

What I find interesting is how for a family who is very private on their private lives, and all service personnel must sign confidentiality agreements, [B]all the details of an upcoming engagement have been "leaked" to the tabloids.

I just got off the skype phone with my bestest mate who currently lives in London and this is the first she had heard of this, so I suspect that it may be more rumour than truth! FYI she is a news junkie and reads and follows a lot of UK news!

I would not begrudge any son giving his fiancee his dead mother's ring. It is his to give. Not that I have any say at all, but I find nothing wrong with it and think it's a nice gesture.

They could always take the ring apart and have the stones re-set into a new design!

i am a huge royalty buff and have enough books on diana to sink a boat i swear. many pics showed her over the years of not even wearing her engagement ring, merely her wedding band, which also had royal
signifigance, coming from the last piece of welsh nugget the queens did, her sister and her mothers if memory serves me correct.

personally i am with many of you and would want my own ring. i can't imagine the insurance they have on that ring! can't imagine being kate and worrying about wearing it and something happening to it. but yes i do believe all her jewels went back to her sons. altho i do remember the queen also demanding back any royal jewels that were given to her.

one other thing, the tiara she wore on the day of her marriage to charles i do believe was the spencer family tiara. not sure it would be lent to kate to wear as i believe its in dianas museum at althrop. and as much as charles stated the family would aid in raising these boys in the way she had, i'm not sure they have been that involved over the years.

i was told by my grandmother(whos english and to blame for my nondisney obsession) that it was a bad omen to wear a handme down dress from a divorced woman. not sure if that applies to veil and tiara tho.

I read an article about it, not sure if the same one as the OP but I took it to mean she would wear the ring on the wedding day but not as her engagement ring.

IF William gives Kate the ring as an engagement ring ... I am betting there will be a document drawn up stating the ring returns to William if anything were to happen to the marriage. ::yes:: So that it will stay in the Royal Family.

That said ... like others have posted ... I would want my own ring.

And like some of you that posted that it is a rumor ... I bet it is.

On the poster that stated she heard Diana was suppose to be for Andrew ... if that was true, I bet she would still be alive today.

it's certainly not a news story, over here in the uk,at the minute,so it's the first,i have heard of it.
i really can't see them, announcing an engagement just yet,as all the news channels are still full of the terrible shootings, that have occured.
i'm sure if it was to be announced,it would certainly be postponed, for the time being.
i also think the pendant idea,is a great idea.

Just google "prince william and kate middleton engagement". Lots of very recent articles in the past few days.

I think my bad feeling about William giving the ring as Kate's engagement ring come from the fact it was from a failed marriage. I think if it had been a wonderful marriage, and Diana had passed away somehow, and William still had the ring to give, maybe I wouldn't feel so bad about it.

That's how I would feel if a guy were giving me a family ring anyway.

Besides, that ring probably would look nicer as a pendant. I love sapphires & diamonds. My own engagement ring is sapphire & diamonds, but that ring was just huge. lol

I'd have no problem with the ring if I were Kate. I'd feel pretty honored to have it. Of course, it's all still rumor now.

Seriously, never mind the ring - can you imagine having your own collection of REAL tiaras? :thumbsup2

From what I read, they are really HEAVY! Diana's headaches weren't only caused by Charles. :headache:

And the Queen's crown that she has to wear into Parliament each year is several POUNDS. Ouch! :headache: :headache: :headache:

hi
new to this forum,my self Anni from dubai
i wounder if you have a picture of the sapphire diamond ring which was worn by Princess Diana..:hippie: :)

I see nothing wrong with a son wanting to give his bride a family heirloom. I do have to agree that I don't know that I would want a ring from a failed marriage but marriage is what you put into it and Charles and Diana were married under very different circumstances then their sons will ever be, mainly because of Diana. William would not have been able to marry Kate 30 years ago much like Charles was not able to marry Camilla when HE wanted to.
