Princess Costumes for Breakfast

Okay - do not usually start threads - just lurk and post.

But we are going to WDW - less than 90 days away, and have a couple character meals booked. One at the castle with Cindy and one in Norway.

Now what I am wondering is should my girls wear costumes??
Will they be sad if they don't?
I was just thinking of having them wear shorts and some "princess-y" t-shirt or dress.

But whenever I see someones pictures at these breakfasts their girls are in costume and looking so sweet and pretty.

Just looking for a little help or advice.

What has been your experiance?

The costumes do look cute, but remember it gets hot in FL! If you do decided to let them wear the dresses bring a change of clothes. I think more girls do not wear the costumes but the ones that do stand out more. Do your girls like to dress up in general?

I saw some princess dresses at Target Friday in the toy section. I really didn't see how much they are though. You can also try http://www.buycostumes.com

They do like to dress up - but like you said the heat!!

We are doing our breakfast really early - well sort of - 8:10 - and then heading to the parks afterward.

Could they wear them just for the morning or if I bring them along is there somewhere I could stash them close by.

Can you tell this is my first trip??? (Made easier by an organized experienced sister)

Bring the costumes! On our first trip my dd kept wanting to bring her costumes. I told her - oh no honey, it's too hot. THat's just the commercials nobody will really wear them. Fastforward - everyone had on their princess dresses. Of course I had to buy more. Now we bring all the princess costumes with us. I won't make that mistake twice.

My DDs loved wearing their princess costumes to CRT - and got lots of attention for the rest of the day in the parks. Having said that, if we'd gone at a "hot" time I might have thought differently

My daughters wore their princess dresses the first time we went to breakfast at CRT, and I bought a change of clothing for them with me. Both changed within an hour or so. This year (they are now 4 and 7) I asked them if they wanted to wear them or just wear cute princess tee-shirts, and pointed out that the costumes were not always the most comfortable things to wear, but that it was their choice and might be fun. To my surprise, they chose to wear Disney princess tee-shirts, opting to be comfortable through-out. You might give your daughters the choice, pointing out the pros and cons of each. When we went in February, less than half the girls were wearing costumes. My daughters enjoyed the breakfast both times equally!

On my DD first 2 trips she just had Disney T's but last trip she wore Cindy dress to 1900 and Jasmine to Norway. They pack very easily in a ziplock bag. We just did sandles for Cindy and sneaks for breakfast-no dress up shoes. She kept Jasmine on for a long time but did eventually want to change. I just had shorts/T in backpack.

DD3 wore hers to the Prin. storybook brkfst, then changed after. Most girls had them on. If you have a Big Lots around you, they had some there for $14.99. Just picked up Belle, but there was still Snow White & Sleeping Beauty

I posted the same question a few days ago. From all of the replies, I will let my girls wear their dresses. After all, they can always change later.

I put a tank top and shorts on my DD under her dress and just pulled it off her when she was tired of it. This helped because we didn't have to find a restroom to change her and because those dresses can be itchy! We too had an early morning PS for Cindy's Castle and there were some CM being trained walking down main street. The guy who was training them stopped my daughter as we were hiking up Main Street to the castle for breakfast and made a big fuss over "Princess Shelby" and taught the cast members how to bow to her and taught her how to wave and curtsy like a princess. It was definitely a magical moment that she will never forget.

We were at CRT a few weeks ago and dressed our dd3 in her Cinderella costume. She loved it and got many comments from the princesses about how she looked. We brought a change of clothes for her and she wore her running shoes under the dress with frilly socks. We also had an early seating and went into Fantasyland afterwards. We took a few pictures on the carrousel in her Cindy dress and then changed her. She would have worn the dress all day, however it is a bit long on her and I didn't want it to get torn or dirty. I had planned on stashing it in a locker, however I just tucked it in a bag in the bottom of a stroller and put a sweater on top to "hide" it (not that I was really concerned about theft, but with my luck...) For us, seeing her in the costume, sitting in the throne, meeting the princesses etc, was all part of the experience. I saw a few knights and princes there that day too!

My DD8 was Sleeping Beauty for Halloween, and I went ahead and bought the VERY expensive deluxe version. I had thought she would wear it to CRT. Now I'm wondering if she'll be too old. She's a very large princess--already 56"!!

She loves to dress up still, and play princess and prince with her brother (4). She's a modern princess who saves both of them.

What do you all think? DS4 we thought could wear his Peter Pan costume while she wears her dress. I'd love to hear opinions.

I say go for it. My daughters are 2 and 5 and very petite, but who says that a princess neeeds to be tiny. After all if she feels comfortable, then let her have fun. I bet other older girls will be jealous at all the attention tha she gets because she's dressed up.

The kids really get extra attention all the characters. Prince Charming was all over my son, I guess boys don't get dressed up too much. Prince Charming told my son that "us Princes has to stick together around here".

I had my DD wear her costume over her clothes and then she changes after. If you don't want to carry them you can always rent a locker. At Norway there weren't too many girls in costumes but at Princess Tea Party almost all of the girls had on costumes. I can't tell you how many parents ran to buy costumes.

My DS will be 3 so he'll be asking for a pretty dress like his sister's , and I'm all for self expression but DH will never let that happen!! I'll have to get him interested in something by then. He loves Mr. Incredible (or Blue Bob as he calls him) and Peter Pan. Maybe I'll go with one of those.

I'm so glad you all told me what I wanted to hear! Now, if only she'll still fit! I'm also glad to hear most of the little girls were dressed up at CRT. So she'd feel 'out of place' if she didn't have it! Yippee!!

DS4 is thrilled to be Peter Pan. I got the most wonderful costume at Senstional Beginnings...much better than the official Disney costumes. He loves it, and as it's just a tunic he can wear it over shorts and a t-shirt. I can't imagine anywhere better to dress up as Peter Pan than the Magic Kingdom. And he'll just love any extra attention.

I just bought one for my dd3 at WalMart for under $20. I know her cousins will be bringing theirs and I didn't want her to feel left out!

Go for it! When we were there many girls were dressed. If I were a little girl I would have wanted to feel pretty as a princess too.

What about 2 yr olds? The costumes at Wal-Mart are for 3 and up. Anyone know where to get smaller costumes?
