yes i know we had already brought up the topic eons ago, but i wasnt feeling up to digging through pages and pages of threads.
so the movie is coming out this year, right in time for disney to join in the obama celebration. now dont get me wrong here, i voted for obama and i think hes going to do good things for our country.
and i am totally excited over the movie.i love the idea of disney going back to 2d animation and the previews for it are so pretty.
but i think this giant argument thats been floating around the web is getting rather old and rather annoying.
everything these days has been about race. raceraceracerace.frankly, its getting a tad bit over done, dont you think?
and they are making no exception with the movie. i mean, the darn thing was in production since 2006 and disney has had to change it countless times because someone had to complain about anything and everything such as:
-her previous name (maddy) being too common and slave-related. ...okay what? last time i knew maddy was short for madeline. and theres nothing wrong with a common name. whats next, disneys going to name a character 'ashley' and everyones going to have a hissy over that too? and thank you very much, i think naming her tiana just fell into the sterotypical pile, as well.
-her appearance. disney was giving her full lips and well..a rounder bottom. not to sound RaCiSt but arent those general characteristcs of black females? and why is it so wrong to look like that? shes supposed to be black. jasmine is arabian and frankly her nose and eyebrows and the shape of her eyes reflect what country she is supposed to be from. why is having full lips that big of a problem?
-her job. disney wanted to make her a chamber maid. in a house, serving oh golly gee whiz: white people. something that a young black female in 1920's new orleans would probably be doing. wow, go disney for being accuarte. wow, go world for being ignorant as usual.
i just dont understand why we are always trying to cover up the boo-boos and the uh-ohs of our history. we cant change it, we lived through it, and frankly we've gotten a lot further than we wouldve ever been believing a century ago. the past is the past. its over, but its real. we should emrbrace it and learn from it and although it may be painful at points, it should only make us stronger and help us to find pride in who we are from what we came from. it shouldnt be about races and offending certain groups. its getting old.
and i think what ticks me off the rictor scale the most is the way everyone is just yelling "its about time! do you know how many white girls disney already has as princesses~!" the last time i checked, oh planet earth, the little girls that adore said princesses and love to dress up as them at the disney parks and practically idolize the movies they are in; really couldnt give a flying crap about the color of their skin. a princess is a princess. and once again, by making the skin colors of the said princesses the way they are is...historically accurate.
children dont see race. adults do. and thats whos complaining, thats whos taking offense at every stinkin thing disney is doing with this movie.
so what are ya'alls thoughts on this? sorry to rant and rave but i saw something on it tonight that nearly had me exploding. :<
and im not lookin for a fight, guys. its just a thought and i wanted to know if anyone was sorta feeling the same way. so lets...keep it friendly?
