I wasn't too impressed with his performance last night either.
But, here's my problem with America's Got Talent this year (and I may get flamed for this):
It seems as if the judges have treated this season as "America's Got a Great Story" instead of finding the acts who could sustain a 60 minute + show in Vegas. For example, the two singing sisters (in MY opinion) are not anywhere near good enough to headline a show...and haven't been for the last few rounds. They have an AMAZING story....but I don't think they have the talent it takes.
In addition - and I know I probably stand against 75% of the viewership on this - don't think the ballroom dancers could fill their own show at their age. What always baffles me is this: we've never heard of them being classified as champions for their age group - which means there are kids their age winning youth ballroom dancing competitions all over the world. Also - very few acts out there are only a pair of ballroom dancers for an entire show. There may be groups like on Dancing With the Stars, but the dancers rotate so you see variety.
I do love this show - and I enjoy the level-headedness that Howie has brought to the judges panel. I couldn't believe it when Sharon had the final say a few weeks back about who moved on and (I believe) it was b/w the Kite-flying kid and the two girls and she said, "I'd rather break one heart instead of two," and sent the girls through. I repeat - it's NOT America's Got a Great Story.
Again: these are just my opinions.
