Hi guys

anyone here been to prince edward island?

what did you think of it, how long did you go and what would you
do again?

Is september a good time to go? and what is it close to?

Is it better to fly to it or can you drive to it? my friend an i are looking at going to Boston and would love to travel up to maine as well and wondered about going to P.E.I while up that way.

any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks

I would suggest that you ask this question on the Canadian boards. They are always happy to give information about Canadian destinations.

Well fromj Maine you have to go through New Brubswick. I live and own a motel in Shediac about 40 minutes from the bridge to PEI...If you come, drop by and I can get you the DISER rate...:p Shediac is the Lobster Capitol of the world. We have great beaches here.

Once on PEI, don't miss Cavendish and Charlottetown. Both are very nice.

There is a lighthouse trail (a map that shows all the lighthouses on the island) and at each one you can get an imprint of each sign they have...

Let me know if I can help...We had people in our motel here twice from New Zealand...I think that is so cool...

BUT!! is the next province over close enough??:)

From Boston to Saint John, NB, you're looking at approx 8hr drive. Add another 2.5-3hrs to Charlottetown PEI, by the Confederation Bridge.

Fall in the Maritimes is BEAUTIFUL...fall and all it's colourful glory is arriving...warm days, cool crisp evenings - lovely!!

You could do a "Maririme Tour" in a long weekend...drive to Maine..come through NB, stop at King's Landing in Fredericton, the historic sights of Saint John, NB, along to Moncton/Shediac (Day 1 &2)

Day 3..PEI from Moncton...do Charlottetown, Anne of Green Gables, drive to the Wood Islands Ferry and cross to NS. From Pictou, you're 2.5 hrs to the start of the Cabot Trail. Stay in Cheticamp night 3.

Day 4...Drive the Cabot Trail. Stay in SydneyNS. Fortress Louisbourg on Day5 if you have the time...if not, drive from Sydney NS back to Maine

ORRR...

Drive to Yarmouth from Sydney...stay in Halifax for a night ot two -great city...actually lots like Boston:) Then head to Yarmouth and take the Cat Ferry back to Portland.

Lots of driving...but the scenery is worth the trip:) PM if you nedd more info!!:)

:sunny:

DH and I have driven from MA to PEI ten times. It typically takes us about 12 hours. We always rent a cottage for a week in late June or late August in one of the small towns near the National Park. (We like Stanhope or Brackley Beach.)

One of our favorite events is the weekly Ceidligh (mostly Irish and Scottish type music) at Orwell Corner in Orwell. There's also one at Irish Hall in Charlottetown. I don't know if they run them in September though.

I've been to PEI once, just for 2 days and one night while touring the maritime provinces. What a lovely and picturesque place! We enjoyed the Green Gables house, roamed along a couple of sandy beaches, had afternoon tea at an outdoor restaurant, visited a gorgeous white steepled church, wandered around Charlottetown, etc. Would love to return some day! :D

never been myself, but my dads family were from there. He's been up in summer and in fall. He doesn't like the could (lives in FLA these days) he prefers summer. Personally I love NE in the fall, so from the sounds of it I'd prefer Sept. My dads family is from Halifax the pictures he's shown me look beautiful.

Hope your trip is wonderful.
