I love Beauty and the Beast. It's one of my favorites. I can't count the number of times I've seen it and I've seen the musical twice. So how come I never knew until this week's podcast that the Prince/Beast's name is Adam? I learn something new every time I listen!

Really? I had no clue either. He doesn't even look like an Adam. :confused3

Yes, when they were reviewing Be Our Guest, they were talking about the picture in the West Wing and someone (can't remember who) referenced the picture of Prince Adam.

I grew up with this movie and have also seen the Broadway production a few times and I never knew until we were in the toy section the other day. DD is getting several of the princess Little People and there is a set of Belle and Prince Adam :confused3

I guess Disney is creating new canon on this one.

We were at the Beauty and the Beast D23 panel with Don Hahn/Voice Actors/Animators at the first expo and this was a question specifically asked - what's the prince's name? Mr. Hahn told us that he didn't have one and never did over the entire course of production.

Edited to add: We were also asked this question with at trivia onboard DCL once. It did not go well. We guessed Adam since that's what people have thought for years and were told the answer was "Vincent". Needless to say someone had it way wrong.

I was surprised to hear Adam today too, I know they never say it in the movie, but I remember hearing Vincent once or twice too. Do you happen to know why people thought it was Adam for years and where Vincent came from? It's really bugging me trying to remember where I heard Vincent.

Adam is purely a fan made name, as confirmed by Glen Keane, who was the animator behind Beast. Someone asked Glen 2 years ago at Comic Con if the Beast had a name, and he said that Beast does not, and never has had, a name. Glen, Robbie Benson, the director, and the producers have all said Adam is nothing more than a fan name.

Adam seems to have stuck ever since. The Beast, logically, does not have a name. On the DVD released back in 2002 (I think?), the producers on the commentary confirmed that Beast does not have a name.

Vincent was the Beast's name on the TV show of "Beauty and the Beast" from the late '80's. It starred Ron Perlman as Vincent (the Beast) and Linda Hamilton (from "The Terminator") as the "Beauty", a lawyer that finds out about Vincent and the secret world he lives in below the city.

Thank you! That is where I got Vincent from. ::yes::

We had a computer game back when I was a kid called "The D Show". Somewhere on there was a question about Beast and it revealed his name was 'Prince Adam', so that's where I first heard it. While I like the name Adam, if Keane says he has no name other than Beast then that must be so.

Aw what does Keane know? ;) He was a Prince before he was a Beast and a Prince again after of course he has to have a name besides Beast.:thumbsup2

I saw the Christmas sequel that went direct-to-video years ago. I wonder if they mentioned his name?

AFAIK there was never any mention of him being called Adam but I did find that fact last year and it's on the new vinyl's foot so I guess Disney have just adopted the "fan" name! Anyone have the 1740's version to see if he was called Adam in that? :goodvibes
