Ok ladies, I need your help. I am not a girly girl. If it were up to me make-up would never have been invented and everyone would live in sweats and sneakers :cloud9: That'd being said, I would like to look pretty on the big day. So, I am wondering if any of you have or plan to do anything extra to make yourself look like Cinderella before the big day :bride: Here are some things I am considering...

Has anyone had a facial? With my luck I'd break out from it, but I still would like to try.

I would like to get my eyebrows waxed or shaped. I have never done this before  I have strawberry blonde hair so you can barely se my eyebrows. I am wondering if it would make that big of a difference...

I am VERY white. So white in fact that the bridal salon employees gasped when I tried on a white gown  . Therefore, I am going with ivory. I absolutely 100% refuse to go tanning or lay out. Has anyone been spray tanned before? I've tried self-tanning lotions, but I always do it wrong  I am worried about getting spray tanned b/c when I am tan, I'm not really tan, it's more just that my freckles come out more. So, I don't want to look unnatural.

The only part of me that isn't white, are my teeth :sad2: I love coffee, and as my dentist reminds me all the time, he can tell. He recommends that I get my teeth-whitening done from him (he's not trying to rip me off, he is one of my mom's best friend's husbands and would most likely do the teeth whitening for free, as a wedding gift). I did the white strips before and that only helped a little. I'm planning on only drinking iced coffee for a couple months before the wedding, so do you think I should just do the white strips or have them professionally done?

I'm planning on getting a manicure and a pedicure 2or 3 days before the wedding. In the summer, I normally get pedicures every 3 weeks but never have manicures. How long before the wedding should I start getting manicures regularly? How long can I go in between them? I am not having tips or anything like that. I'd rip a nail off that way

Thanks so much for your help! If there is anything necessary that I am leaving out, let me know :) I am pretty clueless about this kind of stuff :confused3

In regards to the tooth whitening, if you've tried the strips before and haven't seen much of a result, and you could get them professionally done for free, I say go for the professional! I don't see how iced coffee versus regular coffee makes a difference though, it's the dark color that stains your teeth - cola has the same effect. Drinking through a straw can help this problem, but if you are going to get them professionally done, it's best to lay off the coffee or else you might as well not waste your time. GL!

I get monthly facials and love it. If you plan on doing it, start a few months before the wedding. That way you'll know how your face is going to respond. I got my last facial before the wedding one week prior to the wedding day.

1. Never had a facial, sorry can't help there... but what I would say is don't do it too close to the wedding if you do, for days after you can be red.... try it weeks before.

2. Eyebrow waxing makes a huge difference in how a face looks. Go for it. But go somewhere good, ask friends. Since your brows are light colored I would recommend after getting them shaped to go to a MAC counter or another makeup store like Sephora and have them show you some brow tints or brow correcters, and how to use them, you will probably like the result if you have a bit more of a prominent brow, especially since you will be made up for the big day, it would be almost incomplete without something on the brows.

3. I am a tan-o-holic, tanning beds are my vice... but since you're light you're right not to go for them. Spray tan like a mystic tan or California tan is okay BUT doesn't last long. I would say contact the Spas at disney and see if they do airbrush tan... then a technician will do it for you, by hand, and it will look great, they will work with your specific coloring and really not make it look un-natural at all, no orange like you risk from the spray booths... you'd only have 3 colors to choose from in there, the airbrush techs will hook you up. I would bet Disney offers this.

4. Go with the professional whitening a month or two before the wedding... then if you need to stick the strips on for damage control the week of. I bet you'll be white!

5. For regular manicures I'd say once a week or week and 1/2 and I'd get at least 2 before the one before the big day, keep them nice!

Hope I helped! :flower3:

I never wear makeup...and my Mother was thrilled to actually see me get dolled up for the wedding...she had never seen me like that before! :lmao:
So, therefore, I am not an expert...but I do remember my mother (who is the unofficial west coast expert on all makeup and girlie things, and who gets facials every two weeks) ...she's said to me before to never get a facial on the same day as a special event. Facials can make your face break out, or make your skin a little red. So...that's your official warning from the unofficial expert. :cutie:

I agree with Moonpie's mom... Never do it on the big day-- same goes for plucking the eyebrows or waxing anything...:goodvibes

I agree dont do anything just before the wedding....do it a few months before or more if possible....only because your new at all that & if anything needs to be changed/adjusted , you'll have time to do that.

Facials: I heard they can make your face red, blotchy & sometimes peal....be safe & dont do it the day before.

Teeth whiting....funny you asked, Im picking up my whiting trays tomorrow at my dentist...ill let you know how it goes.

tanning....Im very fair like you....but I did 4-5 visits, spaced out to give me a base so I wouldnt burn before the wedding. It wasnt bad...i did the lowest setting...so I dont look like I have a tan, but I have color/...i dont trusst those sprays

Coffee...i know this sounds weird by try drinking it thru a straw(when its cooler)...straws are good for keeping drinks off the teeth.

makeup....keep it light & simple, just enough to accent your eyes, cheeks & mouth....dont let ANYONE paint you & tell you its for pictures....people wont recognize you

I hope my inout helped...ill let you know about my whiting;)

1. Facials are great! But don't start a week before the wedding. I would suggest trying facials at least six months before so you know how your skin will react. The esthetician will also be able to fine-tune your facials as she becomes more familiar with your skin. I'm very pale and regular facials calmed facial redness that I was self-conscience about.

2. My brows are very light, but the first time I had my brows professionally done well, I got so many compliments! It really opened up my eyes and seemed to change the way I looked. Again, I'd suggest you start experimenting before the wedding, just in case. The very first time I had my brows done, I hated it! The girl was not good at all and I was left almost bald. I had to let them grow back in and I went to somebody else the second time. The second girl was fantastic and I have a standing appointment with her every six weeks.

3. I'm a redhead and soooo pale, I make Casper look like George Hamilton! I understand your plight! I've experimented with spray tanning and I've never had a good experience. It just didn't look natural. Tanning beds didn't work for me so I can't help you much here beyond saying embrace your paleness! :)

4. Teeth whitening-- I have custom made trays from my dentist and they are fantastic! I tried the whitestrips and didn't have much luck. My dentist also told me to cut back on coffee and red wine as these are drinks that stain. Soda and acidic drinks like orange juice are also bad. I would assume iced coffee would do the same thing. I've also noticed that my teeth stay whiter longer since I started using a Sonicare toothbrush.

5. I don't get regular manicures so I can't help you much here but when I do get them, they stay in good shape about a week.

6. I agree with Gina about waxing! Painful for a moment, but definitely worth it for the convenience of not having to shave every day.

7. If you're not used to makeup, you might want to start setting up free appointments at some makeup counters to see what you like. Be very clear that you want to keep it natural and simple. Bring in pictures of looks you like and don't let anybody talk you into more than you are comfortable with!

Hope that helps! Happy planning!

I second the vote for embracing your paleness! I am also whiter-than-white and don't even bother with tanning - real or fake. I think you'll look great just the way you are.

Regarding facials, I am the skincare-product queen, but I've never seen much difference with any of the swanky facials I've shelled out for. My suggestion would be to use a mask - scrub, leave-on, whatever - before you apply your makeup that day (assuming you have tried it weeks before to make sure it doesn't freak your face out) to give you a great canvas, so to speak.

I also highly recommend eyebrow waxing, especially if you can try it a few times first to see what shape you want. For example, I request fuller brows, and I don't let them wax above the eyebrow - just pluck - because it takes off a strip of the fine light hairs that cover your face (which I think looks funny!)

Hope this helps - everyone's given you great advice so far! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for the advice!

Ok, it definitely looks like I'll be getting my eyebrows done and my teeth whitened. The reason I said I plan on drinking iced coffee is b/c it's through a straw and comes in contact w/ your teeth less ;)

For those of you who recommend facials, what kind do you recommend?

I think I am going to forget about being tan :sad2: I'd either look orange or red. So, I'll embrace my paleness like luryloo suggested :)

Start with a basic facial. Then if you like the estathician (sp?) and continue going she'll let you know what your skin needs. I was surprised to learn that my skin was dry so my facials are based on lactic and glycolic and then vitamin c.

Hi! Ok, about the eyebrows from one fair skinned gal to another just have someone shape them for you. Not too much or you'll end up looking like you have no eyebrows. Then go to the counter at your local dept store that sells benefit cosmetics and buy BrowZings in the lightest color possibe. Even if it looks too dark buy it anyway. Then aask the sales girl for a tutorial on how to use the stuff and also ask for a free mascara wand. You use this to blend the brow tinter in.
About tanning I haave been trying to tan for years but now I just Embrace the Paste. The most important thing is to be glowing with healthy skin. II take plain old baby oil and mix it with sugar and exfoliate my whole body with it. It works wonders.
Facial! Do it! Go to a good place and let them know if you have sensitive skin. They have special products for breakout prone skin. Hope that helps!

1. I absolutely love facials and I swear by them. I do mini facials once a week if I remember and I try to go and get a beauty salon one every month or so. I have quite dry skin, so I really benefit from facials. I intend to get one done the week before the wedding. I say you should try it out, you'll probably be amazed at the results, and remember they are professionals and can do a facial to suit your skin type.

2. Plucking/Waxing/Shaping of eyebrows is a must. Unlike you I have black eyebrows which I started to shape when I was 15. It makes a huge difference to your whole face and I highly recommend this. Best to go to a salon to get it done as they will shape them properly to suit your face shape, they could maybe even make them a slightly darker shade if you like!

3. I have never been spray tanned, but I use fake tan all the time and in the summer I use sun beds. I have dark hair and I tan really well, and I feel much better with a bit of color. I would recommend trying a spray tan, which they can again adjust to your natural skin color. You don't want it to look obvious and I've heard brilliant things about spray tans.

4. Teeth Whitening, well I used to be a Dental Nurse and I highly recommend teeth whitening if they are extremely stained. However I will warn that your teeth will become extra sensitive if you keep whitening your teeth, so bear this in mind if you already have sensitive teeth. However if you only intend to do this very infrequently and will take your dentist advice and cut down on the coffee;) then you should be okay!

5. I love pedicures and manicures and I also am having this done for my wedding. I used to do manicures. As for when to get one, you should start having them now really. The buffing of your nail stimulates the blood flow therefore allowing a healthier nail to grow as a result. If you have problems with nail chipping/flecks/breaking etc then manicures can sort this out. I am thinking of having either a french manicure or tips.

As for any other treatments, my other one like Gina says, is waxing. i'm absolutely dreading it. I have had my legs done before but I must have been allergic to the wax or something, cause I broke out in tiny little red spots and I scratched myself until I bled. this is why I am going 6 weeks before, then a week before I go.

That is EXACTLY what happened to me! See why I am terrified of waxing

Thanks for all the great tips :thumbsup2

BrowZings is a great product! I'm a redhead and I use 01 which is the lightest. I have a tendency to look washed out in photos and BrowZings give me enough color to look normal in photographs!
