Primeval Whirl

Oh my, what is there to say about Primevail Whirl...

so now a storyish for your reading boredom...

So, Disney World '06, a trip with my mom, grandparents, and myself. We had just eaten (perhaps not the best idea but all outside common sense is thrown to the wind in Disney). We get in line for this Dr Seues type looking ride but are quickly discouraged when nobody seems thrilled walking off of it. My grandpa decided against it because he recently (ok, so 2-3 years ago but for such a whippy ride he decided against it) had back surgery. So we get on, not expecting anything great judging by the so-so reactions. Well let me tell you. We were laughing HISTARICALLY!!!! (sp) The whole time I was thinking how great it was that he didn't go on! It was quite a thrill that isn't quite suited for those with back problems or people with the fear of falling of a ledge! At this point all 3 of us are crying from laughing so hard! So if you went on this ride April of this year, I may appologize for wet seats...either from tears or, well, you know what!

So yes, we love this ride!

Where is this ride? I thought it was in AK, but I checked wdwinfo and it's not listed there.

It's in Animal Kingdom.

In our family, we call it Primeval Hurl too.

I used to love spinning rides, but after the second pregnancy, I discovered they cause some nausea and headaches, but I still ride them.

But, last July, in blazing noonday sun, after a turn on this ride, I ended up in First Aid, in a darkened room with a cold cloth on my forehead for a long, long time.

They have this almost exact same ride at Kennywood, here in Pa, and I ride it and go back for more.

But the sun, and the spinning, it wrecked the rest of my day.

My DH rode this ride last year and he was hurtin' for the rest of our trip. The sudden jerking motion caused his head to go one way and his body the other way. It pulled something in his neck and it was not a pretty site. However, he rode it again on another trip and tried to brace himself when it got to the jerky parts and he did fine.

So just a warning - be prepared for sudden jerks. It can play havock with your back and neck if you are not prepared. I will not ride it due to the height of the ride and drops. Yes, I'm chicken.

One thing to keep in mind about this roller coaster is that it is configurable. Sometimes the cars spin more; sometimes the cars spin less. Also, the roller coaster is really two, separate roller coasters, and sometimes one side is configured one way, and the other side is configured the other way. We rode it in January and had a great time on the right side the first time through. Then my wife, SIL and DN6 went back on, but on the left side, and were really wrecked when they got off.

The ride incessantly cute. Here's a shot of one of the cars:

i put in another vote for loving this ride! i had never done it before and last year we were walking by it and decided to try it. i have never laughed so hard on a ride in my life. well, it was more a combination of laughing and screaming. hoping that all the spinning wasn't going to catapult me out of the "car". but it was such a blast and we are definitely going to be riding that again next month!!!! :thumbsup2

It's pretty fun! Definitely not too high on thrills - it's teacups on a coaster track - but the spinning doesn't start immediately.

This is totally my favorite ride at WDW, believe it or not! I laughed and screamed and laughed - I couldn't believe how much fun it was. Yes, it does jerk you around, but for me, that's part of the fun. Of course, I don't have back problems . . .

There is a similar ride at CA in DL - loved it, too. Loved California Adventure, by the way - if you get the chance while in California, you should go.

KC :sunny:

I can't handle spinning rides, but this one did not bother me. I really enjoyed it. Maybe our cars were not as spinny as others. I did not think it was that jerky. I have been on lots of other things that were more jerky. It was lots of fun. My kids LOVE it.

Primeval Hurl...ah yes. You know..I love spinning rides, they are my favorites. Love RnRC, Space Mt. But I gotta tell ya...this one does me in. It jars my neck and back a ton...yes, I'm older now and not as flexible as I once was, but my back has been really messed up after this ride more than once. I have to be very careful about not tensing up. The ride spins, and drops you at the strangest times. Optically, it really does me in. I have to shut my eyes because I just can't take that going over the edge while I'm spinning feeling. My dh and dd love this ride, but I can do it just once, with my eyes closed. Bring on EE....that's more my speed!!!!

I'll agree with Primeval Hurl...I can ride everything else (the faster and loopier the better), but that middle part of the ride with the spinning and zig-zagging, was too much even for my stomach. DD loves this ride and rode with DH&GF about 10 times, once was enough for me and there won't be a repeat this trip...I'll stand on the sidelines and take pictures.

I've found that if there are only 2 of you per car and you sit in the middle of the car, it's not as bad. Sitting on the end though is rough when you go around the turns. It's fun though! I like it a lot!

If you like spinning in circles while you go around turns and down hills, it is the ride for you! I can take or leave it, but my kids love it...I think half the fun for them is that I scream, though.

It's still amazing to me that I'm just fine on this ride at Kennywood (an inside dark ride, air conditioned), but put me in the heat and the sun, and I'm deathly ill.
