My dd wanted to ride it when she was 47.5" and they wouldn't let her. She rode it the following year and didn't like it. It's very herky jerky and has a lot of spinning.

In fact I didn't like it this time either - I liked it the previous years, though.

We just watched the AK show on Travel and it's looks pretty rough and spinny. I don't think it's up any of our family is going on it LOL!

It beats the crap out of you! To make matters worse we put our DS6 in the middle, poor kid was a walking bruise after that. He wont ride it anymore! It is fun just rough

It's a bit rough, but the major issue is how riders are secured in the cars. It has a lap bar, and it's actually pretty easy to slip out, sideways (which is especially of concern, given that the cars spin, of course). I think if they had a lap belt with a loop through the legs, like on Soarin', the height restriction wouldn't need to be a high.

I don't know, but that height limit is strictly enforced. When my DD was 47-3/4 inches, she rode the Rock n Roller Coaster multiple times without a question but was not permitted to ride Primeval Whirl. I don't find Primeval Whirl to be a particularly enjoyable ride. It's not exciting or anything - just herky jerky.

Its what Bicker says. Its the way you're secured, little kids could get out if they tried. It is jerky but its not that bad. There's a lot of spinning. I'm not a big thrill ride guy, I enjoy this one.

Bicker is right... plus, two people are in the same seat with the same bar (like BTMRR, not like RnRC). Bar only goes down to the largest person. We had planned for my larger niece, then 9, to sit with my teenage daughter; the smaller, also 9 was going to sit with me because I'm bigger (more even distribution of weight on the two sides of the car). CM rearranged us... larger niece went with me, smaller niece went with my daughter so the bar would close further down. I think the CM would have preferred my daughter to sit with me and the nieces to be nice and snug under the bar together... unfortunately, that wouldn't have worked for us due to our (especially my) sizes.

Of course, unless she slid down into the floor, she wasn't getting slung out past me. :rolleyes1

Primeval Whirl is a lot jerkier than it looks. I videotaped us riding it last year, and most of the video consists of a shaking camera while my GF and I screamed out in pain repeatedly. :)

Agreed, it was not designed very well. The cabs are quite large and smaller kids could get thrown from them. Height requirements have a lot to do with the design of the ride vehicles.

We had alot of room under the bar once and we were sliding back and forth quite a bit. I am sure that if someone was small enough, they could get under it without really trying. It might also hit them in the head/face and cause some injuries.

Yes, the design of the car is probably why the height is so high. Basically, you move on the track, sometimes with drops and rises, and when you get to the top of the ride, there are sharp turns. Whoever is on the end should be the biggest (unless you're both adults), because the turns are VERY VERY sharp. I know when I ride with my brother I make sure I am on the outside because even I think I am going to get thrown from the car. After the turns, you start spinning, and then go on more drops/rises. You continue spinning until the end of the room. When I was smaller, I would hunch over the bar because I could not brace myself with my feet. I didn't quite get thrown as much.

Have fun (next time) when you go!!

It is wilder than it looks. I actually loved the ride. DS (17 yo Thrill Ride Lover) thought it threw him around too much & won't ride it again with me. DH isn't a Coaster person at all, so I'm on my own with this one.

I agree with the other posters that it's probably the restraint system that makes for the higher height requirements. I could see a small child getting thrown in that vehicle.

Last Aug DS13 & I rode it 14x w/out getting off! They gave us a Magical Moments certificate - called us "Ride Freaks" This was right after eating brkfst at Donald's

It does sort of jerk you around a bit, but I think it is an entertaining ride. We laughed our heads off the entire ride.

I saw an interview with an imagineer once talking about this attraction. The object was to make everything look like a big toy, and as such it was hard to come up with a design that met that objective and was safe. The cars they've got represent a minor compromise with regard to the creative intent, with a little help in terms of safety provided by the taller height restriction.
