I'm fairly new to DVC and am still excited and enjoying WDW but know in the future, I will want to venture out and try other locations through RCI. Is there somewhere that I can look for a "DVC-RCI exchange for Dummies".

I would feel comfortable putting points out there for an exchange if I would know soon enough that my match didn't come through and could book something else. I have 210 points so not overflowing with room to negotiate. I just seem to have a mind block on how it works, timing, etc. I put points towards a location, for up to 2 years ahead and then just wait?? Any help to make me venture out of my comfie zone would be appreciated. Perhaps there is already a thread going about this??

Thanks:goodvibes

Don't put your points out there. Put in a request for the place you want or get on a waitlist and when it comes through then have them take your points.

Once you deposit points for an RCI exchange, they are committed to that option and cannot be used for a stay at a DVC resort or anything else. That's called "deposit first".

As Donna says, you can put in a request and no points are committed until you get a match. That's a "request first"

Be sure you ask MS about the $95 fee before you do anything on an RCI trade (deposit or request) and under what (if any) circumstances it is refundable. Some changes require a new $95 fee.

All you have to do is call member services and see what is available. If you like what there is you book it right away (95$ fee). If there is nothing right now you can put yourself on as many waiting lists as you want. They will charge you 95$ (one time fee). If you decide eventually that you do not want to go anymore or the confirmation is taking too long, you can cancel and your 95$ will be reimbursed. From what I have heard from member services, since since RCI has been the provider, people on the waiting lists are not waiting very long to get their confirmation.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that question. It clears it up a little for me as well. We want to use DP for this summer d/t having 50 leftover.

GREAT info!! Thanks Kim!! Joan

Will this work in reverse? My dad has RCI, and when he checked last night on their website there was "no availability" showing for ANY DVC at WDW for Sept/Oct/Nov 2009. This doesn't seem right. He put in "Lake Buena Vista" as the city he was looking for. Are we doing something wrong? He went ahead and deposited his weeks, hoping that would help.

Thanks! Any tips anyone has would be much appreciated. :thumbsup2

DVC is no longer listed as LBV. Have him look under Orlando area in general and he should see around 62-64 total resorts. If he does not see DVC with that, he likely doesn't have sufficient trading power. I currently see 100 units for DVC at WDW between August and early Feb.
