Hi there...we are leaving next week and my poor DS, age 3 1/2, already suffers from mild exema on his wrists and elbows but recently has been suffering from prickly heat behind the knees due to the heat and humidity here in New Jersey.

Now I am worried about the Florida heat....we normally get to the parks first thing in the AM and then in the heat of the day (Noon-3pm) go back to the resort and nap, swim and refresh before going back in for the evening.

I called the doctor and he suggested taking the breaks, Gold Bond Powder and Caldryl if it gets very itchy....

Any other suggestions or tips!!!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!

Can't wait to next Friday!!!

Prickly heat is caused by sweat getting trapped against the skin, especially in places where there is friction. The best way to prevent it is to use things to stop either the sweating, the friction, or both. Spraying on antiperspirant may help, before using some powder to prevent chafing.

If he gets it anyway, some hydrocortisone cream should help with the symptoms. Check w/ his dermatologist first to make sure these won't do anything to inflame the eczema.

BTW: for anyone reading this who gets "sun rash" on the exposed parts of the legs; that it not the same thing as prickly heat. That is Polymorphic Light Eruption. It's an allergic reaction to UV radiation, and the best preventative for that is antihistamines and heavy wide-spectrum sunblocks.

Good old fashion corn starch. It keeps you very dry & comfortable. Looks & feels just like powder so no one will know what it is. Also, Aveeno puts out a great moisterizing lotion made especially for rashes.

I don't have any word of advice, but I just wanted to say.... I sure wish this subject had come up before we went to DW a couple months ago!! I had really bad prickly heat all over my arms!!! I was sooooo uncomfortable. I couldn't even leave my hotel room on our last day! Well, I better make a note of these suggestions for next time!! LOL

Hi,
My baby gets the heat rash real bad! Right now he has it all over his face, neck and chest. What can I use for his face and neck?
