Prickly heat rash

Does anyone have any tips for preventing prickly heat rash? I always get it bad, and it is very uncomfortable!!! It would be great if I can prevent it, or at least not get it so bad! TIA

Try cornstarch or baby powder. I get it on my legs (chub rub!) if my shorts don't fit just right so I feel your pain!

My sister and I have both had this kind of problem My sister is particularly prone to get a prickly heat type of rash every time we go on vacation in sunny Florida. The numerous doctors she has quizzed, visited, pleaded with for a cure, etc. have all chorused the same response...."you must keep the sun off of your skin...no matter what you call it, it is an allergic reaction trigger by the sun's heat and uv on exposed skin.

Once you have prickly heat, Benedryl (taken orally) is almost always the first step to try to reduce your body's reaction. Sometimes it helps... sometimes it just knocks you out.

The best way to combat this problem is to prevent it from starting for as long as you can. Cover up your skin...with cloth...sunscreen alone (even the super high spf 65+) won't do it. Remember, it's not a sunburn reaction, it is an allergic reaction and you need to avoid "contact" with the cause of your problem (the sun) My sister wears super light weight, gauzy, long, cotton skirts or palazzo style pants into the parks. When at the pool, she sits under an umbrella or in the shade of the landscaping foliage. I hope this helps...

Zinc oxide and baby powder with corn starch. I use this in those rash prone places and have done well so far.

I hear so many people talking about bodyglide for the same problem. Do a search on the boards for bodyglide and you will get a lot of threads come up. It is avail. from sporting goods stores or drugstore.com

I just bought a 'Monostat' powder gel just for 'chub rub'......I found it at Target by the ladies products. It contains no perfume, and was about $6.00.

I found out about this product last summer where other than the good ol' DIS boards...even had a link for a free sample. It is one of the best products I've tried in a long time. The texture of it reminds me of the old powder lotions at Bath and Body Works several years ago...it's in a tube and kind of is like antibiotic ointment consistency, rub on the area you want and no more chafing...no more rash. It's great for those bikini area...

I've seen it at Walmart, Walgreens, Kroger, and Target locally and for around $6 also, so it should be easy to find...unlike the BodyGlide, which I tried to locate in my area and couldn't.

Another option...if sweatiness is the cause...try Arrid Anti-Perspirant Cream...it comes in a small tin like container and it's only around $3 at Walmart. I also learned of this as an alternative to sweaty feet and other body parts where else? DIS boards... It does keep the feet dry, but I've not tried it anywhere else.
