Hello everyone,

I've made a few assumptions, but let's look at the info below and see what everyone thinks....

Assumption #1: The deal will be $999 for 5 days / 4 nights at a value resort during value season for a family of 2 adults, 1 junior and 1 child.

Assumption #2: The deal will include base tickets for 5 days at the parks for all 4 people. (No hopping or water parks, etc.).

Assumption #3: Tax is included in the $999 figure.

OK...

So I went to Disneyworld.com and priced this out for a December 15 arrival for 4 nights dearting on December 15 at Pop Century. The website said the cost would be $1134.00. (Includes base park tickets.)

Subtract $999.00 from $1134.00 and that equates to a savings of $135.00 for the 4 nights. Divide $135 by 4 and the savings is $33.75 per night. (Remeber that tax is included in this $33.75 per night savings)

Now I know there is no way to determine how much of the $33.75 is for tickets and how much is for the room, but.... For simplicity of calculation (And Disney has to have some sort of calculation to make this work for all hotel types), I'll just assume all of the discount is off the room which makes it a pretty darn good savings from regular rate.

One night at Pop during value season at regular rate (with tax) is $85.86.

Subtract $33.75 from $85.86 and this makes the room rate $52.11 WITH TAX! OR $45.31 without tax.

If all this were true, this is about 41% off rack rate for the room.

So... Do the math for the moderates and deluxes... :cool1:

Now.... This is all completely speculation and I absolutely don't think Disney is going to give everyone 41% off their room rates (if they buy the tickets at rack and make a package), but isn't it fun to dream???

:earboy2:

The scary part is (if this were true) that AP holders have no chance of getting 41% off rack rate with the BRP because this deal is a 'package' regardless of how the numbers are calculated. Apparently, to get the deal, you must buy the tickets which then makes it a package. :confused3

Again, all speculation. It will be VERY VERY interesting to see how this plays out.

Still holding my breath and crossing my fingers!

I am certain that Disney will specifically say the discount is NOT for the room. That way those of us who booked using the BRP will not benefit by this package for the general public. My DH said once BRP room prices were announced, he was certain that Disney would never offer a lower room only price. Guess he was right. But, since we don't need tickets & BRP was the only discount being offered, we booked. I am just sorry the Swan or Dolphin was not available at a decent price during our entire stay or we would have just stayed at one of those resorts. Vacation destinations other than Disney are starting to look better and better. My DH and I buy AP's and Disney is basically our only vacation destination. I think it may be time to broaden our horizons. I don't think we are going to renew our AP's when they expire in Jan '06. Good luck to all of you waiting for this new package deal. I hope it works out for you all. :)

I have BRP reservations also. If the package is a super good discount, I may reschedule my BRP - not cancel, just change the dates to push the reservations into next year. Then when more BRates become available, change it til I get a date I need.

We were thinking this is our last trip to WDW. This is our fourth in 2 years and we are booked at a resort next to Atlantis for Easter. The kids are ready to try other things. If I have to go back to WDW one more time to use my BR room, oh well. It won't kill me.

Hey Sherry - we're from Harrisburg too and going the same time as you. ~It's~a~Small~World.

I did the same math but was figuring the discount was off of the package, which would reduce the overall savings to about 10% (my calculations were done based on a 6 day/5 night trip). I was trying to figure out what comparable pricing would be if we could apply it to a deluxe and based on some of the comments I've been hearing I assumed it was off the overall package--but I like your 41% off the room calculation better!!!

Maverick-
I too came up with your numbers at first....I believe the 999 is a five night package..BUT

I had a DING moment last night. They're coming out with this offer to compete with US, right? And what's US's current offer? Kids stay play and eat for free! And the discount off the total package closely resembles the cost of ONE child's base pass. I may be wrong...but I remember the amounts being similar.

Good point DisneyFreq.... I never thought about that.

I think it would really stink if they were to only offer free kid's tickets (3-9). I always wonder why that is such an incentive at US???? Kids are in school. The ones that aren't may or may not be 3-9 years old.

It rules out discounts for a fair portion of guests. It's not that I don't think they deserve free tickets.... I would just try a marketing strategy that makes it inclusive for as many people as possible.

Unless........ Since rooms are pretty booked for that part of the year, Disney may want to put together a package they can advertise to the masses, but won't go in the tank since not everyone could use it. LOL It's all a marketing game! :rolleyes1

Anyway.... Only a couple of days to go and we'll ALL know! I'm taking my wishful thinking and hoping for 41% off my room.

DisneyFreq, That was exactly what I thought when I did the math. Didn't Disney offer a "Kids Stay and Play Free" promo a couple of years back? :smooth: Maybe in 2000? It seems that I've taken advantage of a similar promo. Anyways, good luck. We're excited for our trip either way.
We have never been to see all the Christmas decorations and can't wait to stay at the WL again. :bounce:

If that's what it ends up being, then it won't help us. Even though my 15 year old and 11 year old are kids in the REAL world, they aren't at Disney World. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a deal that will benefit everyone!

You answered your own question, Disney isn't going to be offering a 41% discount on the room the passes have to be discounted.

How about this, assume Disney requires you purchase a 6 day pass for a 5 night stay but charges the price for a 3 day pass. Disney can say something like pay for 3 days but play for 6. The pass discount is about $101 which leaves about 5% for a room discount.

SPECULATION but I think it's clear some type of ticket discount is probably a part of the deal.

My daughter turns nine next month so this would be the last year both of my kids could take advantage of such an offer...HOWEVER

we planned on buying SP b/c the price is within 20$ of a 6 day base pass and we probably will come back one or two more times in the next year. So, even tho their passes might be free this time around, I'd have to shell out whatever savings I got now to get more tickets a few months from now so it doesn't make financial sense.

Two deals....I know AP holders are hoping for something, but what if its another florida resident package deal? I hate to say it, but with the way the gas prices and hurricanes have been...wouldn't that be the easiest/most convenient resource of customers??

Disney did do a "Kids Stay and Play Free" deal a few years ago. I don't remember the exact date, but it saved us the cost of two hoppers. That was one sweet deal for our family (although I know it wouldn't be for everyone's).

BTW, enjoy the WL. I hear it's beautiful at Christmas

On another thread someone said their TA told them the discount will be on whole package - not just room rate.

I came out with a calculation of about 14% for whole package. So if that same percentage is used for whatever resort you're at (value/moderate/deluxe), for me, it's not much of a savings. I already get 10% off of room from AAA which I understand I might have to give up if I went with the discount. Then there would be the charge (if I understand correctly) of $50 to cancel and rebook.

So, this is all assumption/speculation.. Hopefully it's a lot better deal that 10 - 14%.

As someone who DOESN'T have a trip planned, and is just waiting to see if they will come out with a deal that would make it worth it for my "typical Disney" family (2 A, 1J, 1C) to decide to go, this isn't seeming like enough to motivate me.

Free Dining had me--the savings would have been great--but we were not in a position to book at that time (we had just moved and our lives were crazy).

Now we are settled and not planning to go, but DH said that if a good enough offer came along we could consider it. $135 just doesn't seem like much considering the overall cost and current gas prices.

We are the typical Disney marketing family, and stay in the Value Resort at Value season and this won't motivate us! Maybe if the savings are greater for those interested in Moderates and up it might work for them, but we will have to wait and see. . .

OMG I am just totally dying. I'm hoping to go to WDW for my B-day this year after having to cancel my special 35th B-Day trip last year :-(

I have not been to WDW since 2002. I can't take it anymore! LOL!!!

I doubt it will be a kids free package because with a 6 and 9 year old that would just be tooooo perfect for us. I'm not that lucky.

I had pretty much decided we would not go this year (again) because I cannot bring myself to pay rack rate and an AP would most likely go to waste.

I talked to my TA and she said they keep "tweaking" it ... it's been changed in fact due to all the internet buzz.

Maybe if we all act like we don't care that a deal is coming out they will make it a better deal. LOL

Or maybe the "tweaking" has to do with all the input on what people are hoping it will be? Like a lot of people are hoping for Free Dining??
:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I hope they tweak it for the better, I am a little surprized how hush, speculation this is, it seems like free dining all the details were out a couple of days before along with the needed code letters.
