pricing query within resort levels

Just playing on the wdw site,as you do- and noted different prices amongst the value resorts,mods and deluxes.

So just wondered,is there a kind of hierarchy within the different levels?

For instance,I understand art of animation costing more,as it's newer,but why are all star music and sports cheaper than all star movies?

And por/pofq used to be cheaper than carribean beach resort and coronado springs,but not anymore.

I get that for deluxe,pricing is probably closely linked to location- but are there other reasons?

Movies is more popular( and I think the more newer) than the other 2 is the only thing I can come up with

Addressing the deluxe resorts, WL and AKL are usually by far the least expensive among the category. And yes, location is by far the biggest reason they are priced less than other deluxes. Neither is on a monorail line, although WL has a very nice boat ride to MK. The deluxes near EPCOT all offer walking or boat access to EPCOT and DHS. The rooms also tend to be smaller at the newer deluxes (AKL and WL) than the original two deluxes (CR and Poly) and maybe slightly smaller than GF. Mostly what makes AKL a deluxe rather than a moderate is the fact that all rooms have a balcony or patio, which moderates don't have. AKL requires buses (or driving) to everywhere.

I just checked on allears.net and on mousesavers.com, and both show all three all-stars being priced the same. Also, I'm pretty sure all the moderates have always been priced the same, although I see that now CS is $5 more for each room category that it has in common with the other moderates.

I'm in the UK,so have been checking on wdw UK site (2014 prices).

Thanks for the answers regarding values and deluxes,but still confused over mods?!

Por and pofq are cheaper this year,as they have been previously (in the uk)
But as I said,this changes with next year pricing- i was just curious as to why?

Supply and demand. They seem to drop prices or run better discounts on resorts that need more rooms filled (read 'less popular' at any given time for whatever reason) and I think that then draws a following based on price, which switches the balance. So they up those prices and then focus on the others with lower occupancy. Just a theory. Deluxe have always had their own level of price structure for different resorts since we started going.

It could be that (noticed the same thing pricing up POR and POFQ this year because there were only preferred rooms available at POFQ so it came up more).

Movies was more expensive in 2008/2009 than the other all stars resorts. Also POP is always a bit more than the AS resorts. That was the only time we stayed value so haven't paid attention since then.

I also noticed last month when I priced up some values that ASSP was cheaper than ASMU and ASMO for standard rooms. It has to have something to do with demand vs availability

All values and mods I looked at were just the standard rooms- all on a par- which is why I was confused over the pricing structure.

Pop is more than the all stars i believe 5.00 a night. Aoa is more expensive than pop. All the all stars have the same pricing.

I did identify this earlier,but not in first post though.

Whether priced in British pounds,US dollars,Canadian dollars or whatever currency though- i still can't figure the different pricing structure.

I've always found ASMo to be more expensive that Sports and Music for some reason - I think because I always book trying to take advantage of promos and it seems to be less included in those.

When I booked my October trip a few weeks ago (bear in mind it was through Bounceback), Pop was $8 more per night than ASSp/ASMu staying within the standard room range.

Room pricing used to be so much simpler. Then they came out with all the expanded views and date/seasons. Now popularity and recent refurbs come into play. And those are always changing year to year!

This past winter POFQ was $50 more a night than CBR when I was looking to make my ressie. Both resorts has rooms available with whatever the special offer was. I think POFQ was river view and CBR was preferred location.

I didn't see POFQ as being worth $50 more a night .

If you were looking at a special offer, it was probably that POFQ wasn't offering as big a discount as CBR was (or no discount at all). Since POFQ is a small resort, it doesn't need discounts to fill it up and discounts are offered to fill up rooms. Just doing a quick look at mousesavers.com it looks like preferred rooms at CBR are $5 more per night than river view rooms at POFQ at rack rate. Also, I just checked on the current spring offer and while they're offering 25% off CBR, CSR and POR, POFQ isn't offering any discount.

Yes, I get that I was very careful to only look at resorts that had special offer rooms available, or so I thought, strange things happen sometimes when I'm checking things out on the website! Having stayed at all of the moderates multiple times, knowing I would be happy with any of them, and POFQ actually being last on my personal preference list, the price difference just really struck me...great way to use computers to make $$$$! I'm grateful I had the opportunity to stay when making a decision was so much easier as it makes decisions now that much easier
