I have recently spoken with my guide and he informed me that the prices are set to go up. Right now the there is $8.00 of per point at AKV which is going up to $6.25 per point as of Dec 1st. anybody else hear this?

My guide told me this too this week. We just purchased in AKV...she told us that the new papers they are sending out to customers have the new $6.00 off per point incentive, not the $8.00, but since we got the one with the $8 off, we can still get that discount until Dec. 1st.

I also asked if they were planning on doing any incentives due to the economy. She claimed that they were actually not--to keep their numbers better, DVC has cut out costs elsewhere--no Xmas parties, things like that. They cannot offer more incentives because it would bring their numbers down in this economy. So they are cutting back elsewhere--she also said that the AKV points will be going up from $104 within the next 3 months or so. OF COURSE, take this possibly with a grain of salt because she wanted to sell us the AKV, so of course they will tell you this now. We ended up buying it, but who knows if it's true or not!

I'm curious as to what else people have been told!?

We just got back and joined DVC on 10/31. At the time, they offered us $6.25 off per point at AKL which, on 160pts would equal $1000. I had a "flyer" in my hand that I picked up at the DVC kiosk at Downtown Disney and it basically said, "save $1000" on your purchase. I showed my guide that and he told me the $6.25 was how they came up with the $1000. We bought BLT. It's still $112 minus $5.

Yeah, my guide told me that they changed to the $6.25 off per point on October 27th or something like that. My paperwork that I got sent was sent on the 27th, and it still had the $8.00 discount so we were able to still get that.

If they are still offering you the $8 discount, you might want to get that if you are contemplating it.

they are giving me the $8.00 off because I have been in talks with my guide since August. It just didn't make sense if sales are slowing why wouldn't they make it more attractive not less for potential buyers. I was thinking maybe they are reducing the per point discount and was going to offer something else but I guess not.

I just did my downpayment/paperwork on monday. I was also told... AFTER I started the transaction... that the $8 off is done at the end of November for AKL. My guide told me that they had just found out. I figure that it is the case, because there was no reason to try to get me to buy on Monday... I already was:thumbsup2

I wasn't told anything about the point price going up... but if it is, it makes me even more happy that we went with 250 points instead of 200!!

Personally I think DVC is doing the right thing.

Yes, the economy is down. So the thing to do is cut SHORT term costs (like the "Holiday Party") not sell the assets at a loss. As a stockholder I don't want them cutting prices and offering deals to make "sales" numbers at the expense of long term profits and income.

The economy will recover, Disney should not sell cheap when being patient will make more money

My guide also told me that the incentive went down to 6.25 per point, I was surprised due tot he economy so I asked why they would do this. He actually informed me that their sales are NOT down and they are still selling strong, he also told me that you are required to put more than a $500 down payment down now.

Kidani is also getting closer to opening. Part of the incentive was to compensate for not having points use until next year.

This is actually the exact reason my guide mentioned, and it makes a lot of sense. She said they have the keep the stockholders happy, and though the economy is faltering, Disney is fairly strong and will still be OK. So they can't go giving too many incentives since that money ultimately comes out of the stockholders pocket. And while sales have slowed a bit, they really haven't slowed THAT much for them since a majority of their members are people like police, firefighters, teachers, etc...who will have their jobs in any economy.

Have you seen the rumor that there is going to be a spring 2009 (non-DVC) promotion announced today that includes cheap resort room with dining plan and park tickets included?

no I have not seen/heard this but I'm not really a in-the-know kind of person. The majority of my information I find out here on the DIS. I read on another post they they are doing matching BLT points with 100 point minimum (I have not confirmed with my guide yet) to be used at SSR. I was this close to making my first purchase of 100 points at AKV (I was told by my guide this 100 point is a real rarity and to scoop it up asap). I wonder why they wouldn't do matching at AKV points though:confused3 . if this is true.

Well, they may not be giving a lot of incentives on DVC, but they are certainly giving them to resort guests:

Buy a 4 Night Package and get 3 Nights free including Magic Your Way theme park tickets. This package offer is good most nights between January 4 and June 27, 2009. Plus, if you travel between 1/4/09 thru 3/29/09 you’ll get a $200 Disney Gift Card when you arrive.

My guess is there will be stronger DVC incentives coming. The developer points for BLT being the first step.

I disagree with those thinking stronger incentives are to come. Hotels have different requirements in terms of capital then timeshares with fractional interests.

I think Disney is definately doing the right thing in terms of cutting back on incentives, long term sustainable growth without undercutting your profit margins in huge increments is a healthier path.

Agreed. Viewed together, the BLT developer's point incentive combined with the reduced AKV credit suggest to me that Disney is trying to reduce the incidence of people balking at BLT and going for the "cheaper" AKV instead.

It's not a rumor

And I am fine with it.

Disney is RENTING the room. If they need to "sell low" then that's fine.

They are SELLING an asset with DVC.

For Rent, it's one thing to think "short term" You aren't giving those folks that room for the next 50 years at that "sale". Hotels have "sales" all the time.

For the sale of an asset if they "fire sale" then they have LOST out for 50 years on the chance to make more money.

Once again it's Short term vs. long term. DVC is a long term investment, we all know that.

(I actually ran the numbers on a stay at Disney using this deal:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: They really think those hotels are worth that???? IMHO it's not that great a deal! I will stick with my OKW points!)

   So you have payed $112 minus $5 per point in BLT????? hmmm, my guide doesn´t mention that.......... and I just talked with her yesterday......... something is wrong.........

As far as I know, that's always been the price of BLT. What do you mean your guide didn't mention that? Did your guide not offer you BLT at all, or did your guide offer you a different price? Incidentally, they are now offerring matching developer points to be used at SSR on top of the $5 off $112 price. What did you mean about something being wrong? Did the price change?
