Prices for 'Stuff"

I was reading a few of the threads re spending money for kids....We want to set a reasonable amount, but having never been to WDW, I don't know how much 'stuff' is? I am assuming more then in the real world but .....

What is the average price of things like tshirts, hoodies, stuffed animals, jewellery, toys....? Not talking the really high end stuff but the mid range type of things kids are attracted too?

Hope this makes sense....I know you can likely buy right up to the extreme in price but we won't be going there.....

Been a good long time since we bought toys and stuff, but I will tell you my daughter buys a hoodie each time she goes and pays around $50, for T's in adult sizes I would say $20 and up. I do not know about kids sizes.

I know in DTD there used to be a store where everything was $10 and under, do not know if it is still there. Of course there is stuff lots lower in price.

Do not know your budget, how may kids you need to set a budget for. All I can say is give them the amount you feel you can afford and they will have to budget within that. Also you did not mention the age either.

With my kids on the first trip, I did not let them buy souvies until the last day, that way they looked through out the trip but did not have to make up their mind until the end, saved a lot of, I wish I had saved my money for that remarks. Worked well for younger ones. When they were older, I got them a prepaid Visa, with the amount I could afford, told them when it was gone it was gone and not to ask for more, of course they had some of their own money as well. They were pretty good about it too.

Hopefully someone will come along with more info. I just do not know what kinds of things and age group we are talking here.

We also tend to go to the local walmart first and get a few things a lot less costly that seems to help keep us within budget, but it sounds like you are not the one taking the trip, just the kid.

Were not big on souveniers, but I'll throw out a few prices that I remember off the top of my head:

snow globe at resort gift shop: less than $10.

stuffed yeti @ AK: just under $20.

men's swim shorts at resort gift shop: about $40

bouncy balls in the Japan pavillion: $1.

Figment stuffed animal @ Ep: $12.

Bouncy ball w/figment theme: $4.

*edited to add:: Dowtown Disney has an everything under $10 store; we got a toy minnie cell phone, a goofy truck, and a few other things there...

Thanks for the info on the pricing.....That is what I was wondering....

There are four of us going, our girls 10 and 14 and me and hubbie, per my signature. I want to give the kids a specific amount and have them know that is what it is, but I also want to know it is reasonable for them and not going to leave them with a few pieces of plastic crap at the end of the trip, if you know what I mean.....I would rather them have a bit more $ and have a real keepsake or something useful.

Appreciate the feedback.

If you go to disneystore.com, on the right they have a section called Theme Park Products. They have things under this section that can be found at Disney World in the resorts and in the theme parks. The prices are pretty comparable. I recommend an autograph book. They are around $7 and a fun way for the kids to meet characters and get their favorite autographs. They also make for a very inexpensive souvenir. Other than that, I can't really remember specific prices for things I got last year. I know I spent roughly $75 and got several shot glasses, a t-shirt, a snow globe, some reusable shopping bags and a hat.

There's definitely reasonably priced things to be found, but prepare yourself for some sticker shock. Clothes tend to be very expensive (at least in my mind). I'd advice you to try to steer the kids away from the novelty hats, except for mickey ears because you need them, only because they might wear them around the parks, but they'll probably never wear them again. I think another thing to think about is stuffed animals of comparable size will be the same price no matter what park or shop you're in, you won't find a better price on the same product at a different store.

One thing I like to think about too, is only buying "stuff" that's available in the parks. Because why would you buy something in the park and "waste" your money when you can buy it online or at the Disney Store?So I make sure I look at the website before I leave so I know what I can buy later when I get home. True. You can not have it in your carry on. But it can go in your checked luggage

shirts are 15-20 bucks each...

stuffed animals are 10-15 bucks...

those twirly light up toys are like 10-15 bucks(kids love em!)

those silly hats range from 15-40 bucks!

smaller toys are normally 5-10 bucks!

My kids haved saved up their own spending money (about $150 each) and that should be plenty. I don't like spending $20 on a stuffed animal but if it's their own money I don't sweat it.

I just checked out the disneystore.com and oh man, I'm gonna be spending like 200 bucks alone on souviners!
I saw the Minnie Mouse Ears, a I Love Jack sweater, a Belle doll, the autograph book, and a few pins and charms that I liked.

Good thing I plan on bringing 600 dollars spending money.

We just got back, here is what we paid for our souvies. Mickey hooded sweatshirt in adult size was $35. Mickey Mouse hands $18. Disney Mr Potato Head parts $19.95 for as many you can stuff in a box. $17.95 for a frame. $12.95 for an ornmanet. $17.00 to pick a pearl in Japan. $6.95 for autograph book. $8.00 to have a silhouette done and another $7.95 for a frame (didn't need to purchase frame).

We have our DD start earning "disney money" almost a year ahead (of course she is a lot younger than your dd's at 7.5 this trip, and so is not overly ambitious till the last minute!) On our last trip, she had earned about $60. Aside from a jacket that we bought for her, she used her own money for souvenirs and well, the silly things that kids insist on buying. As I recall with her money she purchased a Cinderella trinket box, two stuffed animals, and a few pins.

If you shop around you can buy tees for the $15-$25 range, sweatshirts for $30 and up.

If your girls are discriminating then giving them each 50-75 would be a moderate budget for them. If they tend toward the kid stuff, a suggestion would be to offer to buy them each a tee or sweat shirt from your money, and give them free reign with $25 or $30,\.

There is a great store in downtown disney where everything is (or was in '09) $5....a great place to give a kid free run!

You will hear 100 different answers on this and I think one could possibly go insane trying to decide.

Our kids are 10, 8, 4. We give them a $25 gift card that is for consumables. Ice cream, candy, popcorn etc. Treats we normally don't indulge in. Beyond that they generally get 1 tee shirt of their choosing which we pay for and each of the girls usually takes about $50 of their own money. They have yet to spend it all. They are cheap when it's *their* money!

I was really looking to gage how much stuff costs versus what to give my kids....We know what 'budget' we have planned for them, we just wanted to get an idea of how things were priced to see if we were happy with the amount we set!! The prices everyone provided really helped.

Can't wait....getting so close now!!!

Keep in mind if you're planning to purchase a huge snowglobe and putting it in your checked luggage, the weight may put you over the weight limit for checked luggage. You'd be better off shipping it home.

The 1st time we went, I gave my kids $100 apiece and told them the only requirement was that they had to buy at least 1 tshirt with their money. Now, they get an allowance and usually take more than that, but I'm really bad not to let them buy a bunch of crap, even if they are spending their own money. DD14 usually comes home with $, DD13 is usually broke. But the thing I love about their own money is that they aren't always going, mom, can I get this, mom, can I get that. Also, I make my girls understand if you spend all your $ right away, don't ask me for any, cause you aren't getting any, so make it last till the last day just in case you find something better.
