Prices being removed from menus?

I thought it was super strange. Maybe I misunderstood him. He gets back Tuesday so we will get the full run-down then.

I recall seeing a recent post on another site where they were reviewing the Rose and Crown, and I believe it was the menu posted outside that had no prices but the indoor menus did. There was a picture of the menu without the prices though, as well as a pic of the one that did have the prices.

I’ll ask, too: where was this?

At some fancy restaurants, only the person at the head of the table (the person who’s paying the bill) gets the menu with prices on it, and everyone else gets a “guest” or “ladies” menu which does not have the prices. I’ve never seen one at Disney, but I would really like them to offer them when I dine with my parents. As frugal as my parents are, they spend way to much time focused on the price and not on the selection. “Guest” menus would make my life so much easier on vacation.
I would like to see that for a slightly different reason. During our recent trip my daughters maternal great aunt and uncle were automatically ordering the most expensive item on the menu. Sigh they know about the meal plan and think their helping me get my money's worth and keep making that mandatory tip larger.

I know while researching to budget for the next trip I ran across a menu with no prices but I can't recall which one.

I remember at Garden Grill they gave us a "menu" that listed what all would be coming our way, but since you can't really order anything different, it's really just an informational card, and the price is the flat rate. Maybe they were confused about the type of restaurant they were at?

Look on the bright side.
Someday, G-d willing, you'll be their age and happy that someone cares enough about you to treat for dinner. It'll be your children sighing about the tip anddd you won't be able to hear them;).

Well, technically the tip isn't "mandatory" while on the DDP. :duck:

Well to get a little personal is it because we have over 6 people, in order to keep family harmony and to be able to bring my daughter and her half sister (my god daughter) I have to pay for her mother, stepfather, great aunt and uncle. So I end up budgeting $1000 just or tips and regardless of what I pay for a plan if you don't want an appetizer I believe you shouldn't order it. Sigh I really would like to see those kind of menu's

If you are technical, tip isn't mandatory, ever.
Unless your party is what, over 6 people. Don't they add it in if you are over 6 (or have a TiW card)?

It's nice that you bring them. Less nice for you if you resent it. Sounds like you have a decent amount of money to be able to afford to be so generous so just let it go :) Maybe this is the only chance they get to order the most expensive off the menu and they're doing it under the guise of giving you good value for the dining plan! don't let your generosity be tainted by the tip amount, it's not that big a difference from least expensive to most expensive entree anyway! Feel good about the nice thing you're doing and don't begrudge an extra few hundred $$ at that point!

I agree. Maybe don't tell them the ins and outs of the plan next time? Or don't tell them you're on a plan? I assume you've done the math and know that the way the group is eating overall still makes the dining plan worth it?

Yes. Though of course you can always talk with a manager if service is horrid.

Eh, he's allowed to think and talk about it. If they are only doing it to maximize the plan and not because they want that food, the poster has the right to grumble about it. Many people don't think about the tip being based on the cost of the food when on a dining plan.

I can see Disney doing this for guests on the DDP to try to save costs. Many tend to order the most expensive dishes when using DDP in order to maximize the value. Removing prices may cause some people to order less expensive items.

The thing about being generous to some family members is they can be bizarre about it in ways that make no sense to you. I don't worry about my mother's generation when I take them on vacation.
Can't travel on a plane per doctors' orders. Check.
Gonna need to rent a scooter and be sure the day trip's pavement route is even. Check.
Expect someone will need a nap and don't be surprised if you wind up eating room service. Check.

It's the younger still should be working ones that make me go "Hmmmmmm".

The difference in tip between entrees sure seems pretty minimal to me compared to the overall meal cost for 6 people. Mandatory 18% tip on a $30 entree = $5.40; tip on a $40 entree = $7.20. Difference = $1.80. I would let gramma and gramps live a little!

LOL. I'll just have the salad--I can get 10 steaks for the price of this one. or there is no steak worth $50. or how much is that bottle of wine--we can go next door and get one cheaper..,...bwahahahaha

LOL. I don't see anything on that menu I like. so I am not eating. Isn't that spaghetti on the menu--yes, but, it is not spaghetti with meat balls

I love this thread--I had an ex-BIL (on DW's side of the fam) that did this whenever he saw me--steak and lobster please--(at a chicken fried steak place..)oh well--ex BIL

Except the guests have the menu before the staff knows if they have the dining plan or not.
Or a guest can say no to DP question at the beginning and change their mind later.

Me too! I ended up purchasing the dining plan at the last minute, which wasn't even close to a bargain for my MIL, DD and myself because MIL would have been miserable if she'd thought I was paying menu prices. She'd have starved. So I told her it was all inclusive and she ordered dessert every. single. meal! Said she gained 10 pounds! She was blown away by the entire experience and spent her two snack credits on Mickey bars or ice cream sandwiches! She'd always ask the CM, can I get my snack credit for an ice cream, it's my second one today! We lost her 4 months ago, I am so thankful she was able to experience that with us!
