Prices! Am I priced out!

Thanks for the touring plan info. I am open to other sailings, that was just most appealing to me. I totally agree that it's a supply and demand concept and there are pleanty of people willing to pay. It seems that the average family will not be able to keep up with the prices. I just remeber paying around 3,000 for a 7 night verandah for three people three years ago. Wonder how the new ships will impact fares.

Yeah, I remember everyone hoping for that when the Dream and Fantasy were on the horizon. Sure didn't help prices go down at all. I have a feeling two more ships will just make it worse since Disney's pricing tier is the worst in the industry :confused3

Hi,
We have cruised DCL three times in the last three years. A 7, 4 and 5 night cruise on the Fantasy, Dream and Magic. I love Disney and I love Disney cruises. We have two young girls - 4 and 2. I meant to book opening day for the 5 night 2 days at Castaway Cay, but didn't Now looking at the prices for a verandah - 6,000! That is so high. Does anyone know what the opening day rate was? I know i will bite the bullet and go on maybe one more Disney cruise in a couple of years, but that might be it. We can cruise NCL - which we did and loved before kids - for 3,000 for 7 nights. We like going to the parks too so that might be our only Disney trips with these prices.

Feel the same way. We love DCL. Consider them the best of the cruise lines. When we can do NCL/RCCL/Carnival for approx $3500 (2A, 2C) for a 7-nt cruise, we'd have absolutely no problem paying $4500 to $5000, maybe even a little more for DCL instead. However, even though we could swing it, we can't justify $7000 for DCL. Which is what it takes now - even if booked opening day.

Yea. I saw a Norweigan balcony stateroom out of Miami (new ship) for $2200 for a family of 4 with free Wifi and free gratuities for 7 days (newer ship will all bells and whistles). The Fantasy the same week out of Port Canaverel for a verandah room for 4 is about $6400 with no Wifi and you still pay tips. Ends up about $7000 vs $2200?? I love Diz cruises, but I lived them when they were 30-60% more than the competition. Seeing them as 200% more then the competition is a different ballgame....

I've posted this before, but here goes again :) DH and I are cruising for our 15th anniversary in March over Spring Break - so prices are higher everywhere.

This is what it looks like for Disney vs Celebrity:
  • Disney - 7 night Eastern Caribbean Departing Port Canaveral March 25th
    • Inside GTY $5,200.30
      • minus ~$500 for OBB discount = $4,700.30
      • includes: ~$200 OBC
    • Oceanview 9C $5,480.30
      • minus ~$520 for OBB discount = $4,960.30
      • includes: ~$200 OBC
    • Verandah 7A $5,984.30
      • minus ~$550 for OBB discount = $5,434.30
      • includes: ~$200 OBC
    • Concierge 00T $19,242.30
      • minus ~$1,900 for OBB discount = $17.342.30
      • includes: ~$200 OBC
  • Celebrity - 7 night Eastern Caribbean Departing Ft Lauderdale March 26th
    • Concierge Extended Verandah (C2) $2,729.46
      • includes: Premium Beverage Package, all gratuities, unlimited internet for both of us, and $300 OBC
      • PLUS - we're in an extended balcony in a premium location. Other concierge benefits on Celebrity aren't worth very much, but there are some other minimal bennies as well.
So, Celebrity comes out at $1,971 LESS than Disney's least expensive room (and $2,470.84 less if you didn't have an OBB) and we'll likely have $0 due at the end of the cruise due to bennies and OBC. That's crazy IMO. There was nothing on Disney that was worth almost $2000 more than my experience on Celebrity.

I've cruised Celebrity and thought it was a good line. You will enjoy it and have plenty of scratch left in the pocket.
Oh yes! We did a Spring Break cruise (DD and I) last year. DH hasn't been, but we know we're going to have an amazing time :) Thanks!

I think we will sit this year out and book opening day for summer 2018. We will do disney world, so myself and my girls won't be deprived of the mouse . But maybe just one more disney cruise while the magic of the characters are still there for my girls and then on to other lines unless something changes.

We travel off season and our 2013, 2015 and 2017 7 night cruises are all within $100-200 of each other. 2013 was a Western on the Fantasy in a 4A, 2015 was an Eastern also in a 4A, 2017 is a Southern on the Magic in a 5A. (The Southern was always more expensive than the Western or Eastern in the same category hence our move to a 5A.) All 3 cruises were between $5,400 and $5,600 for our family of three. I've found we can still cruise Disney if we're diligent. Then again we don't mind cruising during the school year or hurricane season. I know we can cruise cheaper on other cruise lines but we prefer Disney.

Is that price per cruise, or the total for all three cruises?

I thought I would chime in - since you mentioned you cruised NCL before kids. I haven't cruised, but my daughter was lucky enough to when she was 9. She LOVED the kid's club there, and still mentioned "Popcorn" (the counselors all had nicknames). So for what that's worth....

Are you looking for a 2017 or 2018 cruise? I believe the 2018 cruises for the beginning of the year should open soon and my guess is that opening day prices will be lower than those that are left for 2017.

we took 9 people on a 4 day Dream in 3 cabins over Easter break for under $4K in 2009! Guess those days are gone.

we were also priced out this year so we tried RC Liberty of the Seas and loved it. I have a review on the royal caribbean section on this site. We got an amazing room. DCL does some things better BUT RC also does some things better.
