I need a room for 3 adults in NYC in October. I know that Priceline only guarantees bedding for 2, but does anyone know whether I can take a chance and would be allowed to squeeze 3 adults in a 2 person room?

You could end up with one bed. Would that work for you?

I don't think I would take that chance. NYC rooms are small anyway.

www.travelzoo.com has hotel specials on NYC all the time.

herc.

1 king bed would be o.k for us but a double would probably be too small. Last time I went through priceline in NYC I requested a king bed and got it but I´m not sure I will be that lucky every time.

I always use hotwire when I need more than one bed. We have only gotten one bed once with priceline so I hate to take a chance.

Thanks for the tips. I´ve been looking at Hotwire deals but unfortunately the cheapest they can find for our dates (at a 3 or 4*) is around $260, while Priceline deals are around $115.

We were three adults, and we got placed once into a room with one queen bed. The hotel was kind enough to switch us, but I wouldn't guarantee that happening; if the hotel had been fully booked, or just decided not to, we would have been stuck.

Was the hotel o.k. with the 3 of you staying in a room with 1 queen bed? I´m wondering whether it´s against policies to book 1 room for 3 people through Priceline or whether it´s just a question of us being willing to risk ending up in one small bed?

I've always had wonderful luck with Priceline hotels. I always call the hotel and specify what I'm hoping to get, and I've always been given what I've requested -- of course, that's no guarantee for future trips! They are within their rights to give you just a double bed.

How bad would it be if you ended up with the worst: just a double? Are these three adults the type who'd -- if they couldn't change the room -- laugh about it and draw straws for who'd take the floor? Or would it be a disaster: fusses amongst yourself, waking up poorly rested and forced to go to a business meeting the next day? Is this a risk you can take on this particular trip?

Also, what other options do you have? I wouldn't take the chance if it means saving $20/night. I probably would risk it if it meant saving $100/night.

It means saving quite a bit over $100 á night and we´re definately the type of people who would laugh about it and still have a blast if we couldn´t change the room. No problems there. It´s a girls only trip, just to shop and have some fun, but trying to stay within a pretty restricted budget.
I´m thinking we may go with Priceline.

I used hotwire when I went to NYC last April with DH and DS13. I definitely paid more than I would have thru priceline, but we needed 2 beds. When I got there to check in, they still had us in a room with 1 bed. IThe hotel tried telling me that all discounted rooms were for 2 people only. I even had the receipt from hotwire with 3 people listed - they just kept saying that I had to call hotwire about that. It was so frustrating. But, in the end, it worked out and they moved us.

So, my point here is that there is no guarantee that even if you book with hotwire you won't have a problem upon checkin. I'd go for the low price thru priceline and take the chance if I were you! Have fun!

Ugh, I would hate for that to happen if I had paid more just to believe I had 2 beds guaranteed.
I think you´re right and that we´ll risk going through Priceline.

New York hotels are different than any other place in the U.S. Many hotels have rooms of various sizes with anything from one single bed to two doubles. Also the rooms can be very small, I am talking cruise cabin size small. On Bidding for Travel a couple booked a 3.5* hotel and when they called the hotel to confirm they said the room only had one full sized bed. The woman's husband was six foot five so she was not happy. I checked on the internet and the room was 185 sq ft., the exact same size as a standard cabin on Carnival.

I would not risk Priceline and just book on a discount site. Try
cheapostay.com, lastminutravel.com and hotelsclick.com.

My friend just came to NYC to visit and see some shows on Broadway. She booked her room on Priceline. After booking, she called the hotel and requested two beds so I could stay over with her. When she checked in, the room only had one double bed. The manager said that is the room given when booked on Priceline, and there were no rooms with two beds available. My friend made a fuss, but it didn't help. I live in the city so just went home after the show.

The double bed would have been really tight for three people, and there was no room for a cot.

I use priceline often. After the bid, I call the number to the hotel, ask for reservations, give them my reservation number and ask for 2 beds.

Always get it. I know it is not a guarantee however, why not try?
