Has anyone used the name your own price for car rental at Priceline? The site states- "UP to 25% off". Just wondering what actual savings usually turn out to be.

In addition, I am trying to compare to AAA rates which so far, have been the cheapest. The Priceline lowest regular quote is just a few $ more than my AAA discount from Hertz. Just wondering if I name my own price I will save significantly more with Priceline.

Any experiences out there?

I've found that by using discount codes and coupons the rates booking directly with the agencies beat Priceline.

But for last minute rentals where regular rates are high (especially daily rates -not weekly or weekend), Priceline may save you some money.

What are your dates and what size car do you need?

I bid with Priceline a week ago and got a fullsize for a week with National $16 a day, $158 total with taxes, that's for 8/22-8/29. I had been trying to rent a car using codes, but I couldn't get under $200 with Alamo or National, the best I could do using codes was with Thrifty for $30 more and they are off airport.

I just saw someone got a midsize with Alamo for $12 a day in August on Bidding for travel, great deal. ;)

I saw that too but unfortunately we needed more room. I just couldn't play with the codes anymore. It was very time-consuming. Priceline is just quicker and now I have one less thing to worry about.

Very good all! I will try my luck at what Priceline has to offer then and/or play around with the national site. I was looking for a rental (probably mid to full size) 9/18- 9/26. I was getting @ cheapest so far with AAA $140- with taxes, title, and kitchen sink $214 (and I already have a kitchen sink!!)- geezz.

I will post back if I get a better deal thanks to my fellow dissers. Thanks guys!

I also got tired of playing with the codes and decided to try Priceline. I was able to get a midsize for $12/day for 8/12-8/19 with Alamo. Only 25 days to go. :cool1:

I did Priceline for a one day rental in Milwaukee. We needed a car to take us to the airport because I didn't want to leave our newish car sitting on the lot there for 11 days. I got my 1 day rental for $34/total - and I wish I would have bidded lower...but luckily it is only for 1 day. I plan to try them again for our WDW rental when it gets closer to my travel dates in October. I occaisonally try them now - but have been getting rejected...then you can't bid for another 3 days...

I also want to check with my credit card company and insurance company to see if they cover an SUV. I would hate to bid on one, win it and then find out we have to pay extra $$$ for the added insurance...

Good luck - keep us posted if you get your car through Priceline!

If you use the link to National from vacationoutlet.com and use the $15 off coupon on that page, you can get a midsize for $202. Not much of a discount, but might buy you 3 gallons of gas :)

UPDATE:

I bid tonight, and got a mid-size for 8 days on Priceline (Tampa) for $13 a day-$156 total ! Woo hoo! Beat all other coupons, direct sites, expedia, AAA, and others that I looked at by about $50. Just wanted to share the good deal in hopes that others may find useful as well.

You read my mind - that was my question too! When I used Priceline I got Avis - which I am happy about! Just curious who picked up your bid...

Alamo picked up the bid. This is a Tampa rental. Of course it is the one co. with the shuttle- oh well. I figured this would be the case as soon as I placed my bid. It should all be ok though. We have done the shuttle thing at Orlando and it works out fine.

Any luck if more than a week is needed? these rates are great I'm going to try bidding tonight, I'm ready to scream with trying all the different codes and re-entering everything. We can live with a week for these prices but the extra days would be very convenient.

No problem. As posted above I got fullsize 8 days for $16 per day, $181 total.
That was for Aug 15 to 23.

I got a full-size from Alamo for nine days, $13 per day. With the taxes added, it came out around $165. I definitely think that it is the best deal...I'd been getting NOTHING below $214 for any company with every conceivable code.

We'd never paid more than $170 for a rental with National before, and I wasn't about to this year, either!

That's awesome! I got the fullsize with National for $16 a day, if only I had started lower. ;)

That sounds like a great price. What is the final estimated price including taxes and fees?
