We have never stayed in a villa over the week end, ostly just to reserve points for another visit. Can anyone give me an idea of what the DVC cash price is for a 1-BR or a Studio on a Friday night? Are these hard to come by?
The DVC member discount is 25% off of the Rack Rate for the year / season / resort / room size you are looking for. You can find these rates at www.waltdisneyworld.com.
When booked with the member discount, you get the DVC housekeeping schedule--not daily service. Room tax IS added to the price. Since the discount is intended for use by members only, the DVC member's name must appear on the reservation, and you can only book one room at the discount rate for any given night.
Availability is limited to days when DVC's computers predict that the resort will not be 100% booked by members wishing to use points. It's not uncommon to get the discount on weekends. The only way to know for certain whether it is available is to call DVC. And, if there isn't a room available when you call, try again in a few days. There is no fixed schedule for releasing rooms at the member discount rate.
The DIS has a much more user-friendly listing of rack rates than does the official site. I don't think much of Disney's official site - IMHO, it's hard to use. Anyway, here's a direct link to rack rates, courtesy of the DIS:
