Price adjustment?

If the price drops below what you paid, but it’s a VGT rate, will DCL give you a price adjustment? I have until 9/22 to make changes without penalties. I’m not sure if I would have to rebook for these savings? Is a $400 price difference worth moving into a restricted fare during COVID times? I’ve never cruised before and would appreciate the advice!

You can rebook. It will be a new reservation, but they will move the money over for you. Most of my cruises have been restricted rates including the last one on August 30. I would do it in a heartbeat to save 400 dollars. People make this big deal about not being able to select your room, but I've always ended up in better rooms than what I would have booked. It's usually the most expensive rooms that don't sell out. We got placed in a 5b midship deck 8 on our last cruise. I don't know what category you are booked in to begin with so that may make a difference.

The room will be nonrefundable when you book it, but insurance will still apply. At some point all rooms become non-refundable. I booked my last cruise at two weeks out and it wouldn't have mattered if I booked a VGT or any other room they were all non- refundable. Like I said insurance will still cover you if you go with a VGT.

Have you looked at the worst case Verandah and be willing to take that just to save $400?

And I mean what you consider worst case. If I pay for Verandah, I pretty much want a clear view - no white panel below the rail, no white wall with a round hole in it (Navigator’s Verandah, Category 7A) - or a cabin located above the movie theatre or Walt Disney theatre or below the pool deck (the sound of deck chairs being moved in the morning).

I will take the few “obstructed” Verandahs that have a little bit of the upper corner blocked.

….and so I typically don’t book a Verandah due to the big price difference (that is not on my don‘t like list).

The obstructed verandahs usually sell out first because they are the cheapest. I don't really think any cruise is being sold out right now with less than 50% occupancy. Disney is not going to give you a crappy room when the ship is half empty.

To answer the initial question: no, DCL does not automatically do a price adjustment. They will adjust if requested in the (rare) situation when a regular fare decreases. But they will not adjust a regular booking to a VGT. However as PP mentions, you can cancel the regular booking and rebook the VGT. You will lose any activities (dining, tastings, excursions, etc.) that you may have booked. And payment is due in full at the time of booking the VGT, with no changes or requests allowed.

Right now I’m worried about paying too much for a lesser experience. We don’t have the insurance, but could add it if we rebooked. I’m not sure what COVID coverage it offers so that will be one of the many questions I will ask DCL.

Right now I’m worried about paying too much for a lesser experience. We don’t have the insurance but could add it if we rebooked. You will most likely get a higher cat than a 6b. No guarantees on the side of a ship or pull-down bunk unless you are a family of four. I booked an OGT once and got a large porthole room that sleeps 5 and there were only two of us so you just never know. The insurance does cover covid. You can always find cheaper insurance through third parties. I have a credit card that offers insurance if I use that to pay. I don't buy insurance just because I booked a GT. If I had to cancel it would most likely be last minute and then it really doesn't matter what rate you have.
