previous west. cruisers/key west trolley tour question

Hello everyone, I am hoping that someone could help me decide if I should book the trolley/train tour on the ship or on my own.Is there really any advantage either way? (Do they pick you up on at the pier if you book on the ship vs. your own? Or do you walk to the trolley just like everyone else and meet in town or what?) Just trying to see if it is worth the $ if they don't provide anything else would you just book on your own? Any help would be great.thanks!

We just returned from the July 6th western cruise. While we booked excursions through DCL for Cozumel and Grand Cayman, we decided to purchase tickets for the Old Town Trolley directly from the OTT website. Old Town Trolley's regular price is slightly lower than DCL's price. Plus, we got a discount by purchasing the tickets online.

There's no reason to purchase the Old Town Trolley or Train tour through DCL. The place where you board the trolley/train is just two blocks away from the dock. You have to walk to this boarding area whether you go through DCL or not.

Please know that I have all kinds of information, including on conch train etc for your asking- the only thing you do on your part is send me a self address/$3.00 postage envelope and I will send it to you - My husband and I were both born and raised in Key West (4 generations conchs) so we know all the dos and don't and this information will save you monies. We booked through DCL. The only advantage (if you could call it that) is that they put the DCL people on the same one and did not have to wait until it was filled. It just left when all DCL people boarded. I think you can book this one on your own though. Also, we took the trolley. Although they said the train or trolley take the exact same tour, we went down some very tight streets. No way could the train and its cars make those turns. Some prior posts said that the trolley went more places. This seems probable to me.
